I'm a bit late to reply about Top Gear's indiscetions I guess, but I'll do it anyway:
Clarkson has never liked the rear engined layout, and preferred to crash Porsches whenever possible, so we shouldn't expect him to love rear engined Renaults.
But of course when he was younger he DID love the new A610 didn't he??
He also enjoyed the Venturi.
Is his memory fading in inverse proportion to his increasingly annoying hatred of things French???
The next time he says ' surrender monkeys' I guarantee I won't even smile.

His disdain for special cars doesn't endear him to me at all - it simply shows that he is NOT a car fancier.
The fact that his TV show is about cars is the ultimate irony.
Oh - apart from the influential position he has reached that is.

Humbug!!!!!!!!!!

stupid publicity/ greed

Postby a22 » Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:54 pm

Yea smashing up the A610 on that DVD, great stunt in the aid of 'nonsense' publicity.... very funny (not).

Said he paid £9,000 for it! Surely would have been better to have given the £9,000 to starving African children/ charity or whatever, surely that would have been better 'entertainment' / satisfaction to the thousands that watch this DVD and a good example 'to those that have money'....

shame again in a stupid world..... that £9,000 may have helped someone drink a clean glass of water instead of one that is infected with parasites.... yes, great entertainment in all it's gluttony..... and gluttony isn't entertainment I think.... stupid people indeed.

former comment....

That is presuming the wrecking of the A610 was intentional, which I think it was....

Yea anyway just seems a silly waste, 'politics' / 'do gooding' etc aside... Wasn't really entertainment was it? Sure they could have done abit better than that...?
Also he said the Venturi was 'rubbish'! Well, if it is rubbish then dump all of them on me.... I like rubbish, at least if it is a few Venturi's!!! Urrgh!?? I'd take em all....

I mean; why smash up things and rare cars/ lovely cars (for the time at least, when they were created) that I'm sure most people here would like to see survive and are worth money?
Seems an act of vandalism to me! Don't vandals get ASBO's or something?!
Well, it looks like they did intentionally destroy it after Martins comments about remote control etc....

Yes, projecting ahead; you could say that a Ferrari Enzo maybe rubbish in 20 years compared to what is available in 2023! So' lets smash them all up in silly TV shows! I doubt it.... ??

Jean Rédélé... disrespectful fools...

Postby a22 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 1:26 am

yes Jean Rédélé was somewhat similiar to Enzo Ferrari, as a great sports car manufacturer/ pioneer....
How insulting to smash up his car (was it a RHD?) ... if so yes only one ot 87 ever made! Also maybe the DVD was made in the year he died/ presume that was when it(the DVD) was made.... very insensitive/ stupid..... I mean show some respect! Whatever one thought of the GTA/A610... this person also made the A110... one cannot argue with that cars achievements.

Maybe Clarkson & co could produce a better car than the A610! In all their incredible knowledge and intellect!! I doubt that very much! I think they maybe able to design a good 'shopping trolley possibly'/ although that too is highly debateable. Oh, also I am 'the queen of Sheba', just in my spare time.
'Pull the wool over the over eye', it's totally blind and nobody will notice....
Yea what a load of rubbish this 'Fashionable media nonsense'....

very disrespectful I think to a great marque and Designer, Jean Rédélé...

Car Design/ destruction.... Which has most value?

Postby a22 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 1:49 am

It's one thing 'talking about cars'..... IT'S SURELY ANOTHER THING AND A MUCH BIGGER THING MAKING THEM... that's why only a few do make them and probably they are gifted people.

For sure many talk..... probably better than 'talking' is making them though!! if you have the knowledge!
Yes, easy to talk about a car/ destroy it (5 seconds) but difficult to design/ create it(hundreds/ thousands of hours) .... Hmmmn!

GREAT DVD!!! I'm convinced! laughable really....

It made me think a bit more about all the other cars he and the others have wrecked in the name of entertainment. The Dolly Sprint in the Leyland episode was a really good car apparently, and much beloved by its former owner. I've been watching some of the older TG reruns on Dave, and there's one where he drops a skip onto a very tidy looking Maserati BiTurbo. I mean, it's probably a crap car in the general scheme of things, but each to their own, and it's certainly rare.

Yes, absolutely Martin, yes I can imagine these other 'enthusiasts suffering at the hands of these 'media jokers'.
Very insulting to enthusiasts who love their cars, that's bad.

Maybe if 'they' have to wreck things and label them as 'rubbish' then at least they should have built better cars themselves to back up their actions?

We all could wreck cars and talk about them in derogatory ways, but what qualifications does one have to do so? Clarkson and Co probably very little, maybe a degree in media studies at best! Wow!

Maybe Jean Rédélé and Enzo Ferrari maybe could be allowed to insult other people's designs and even smash them up but I doubt that they would be so stupid to do so because they were great creators... not destroyers/ idiots/ vandals. think they would have been more interested in designing things than destroying!!

Again I say "Yes, easy to talk about a car/ destroy it (5 seconds) but difficult to design/ create it(hundreds/ thousands of hours) .... That takes BRAINS and abit more .... Anyway, surely Clarkson and co have more intelligence than Jean Rédélé !!!! I doubt that very much....
so why insult his fine work? A610... wonderful car I THINK

I often thought of a mass invasion of Alpines to their airfield on filming day could have been fun, especially if the press were invited.......wonder what they would have done.

Probably would have tried to smash them all up by the way they are carrying on so far!
