Well a truly horrific budget for car enthusiasts! Clio V6's and V6 Avantimes look the worst hit with massive increases in road duty coming over the next couple of years. If you need a council parking permit get rid now - Richmond Council is leading the way but many others about to follow - Currently about £100 - if you have a 255 and above co emissions car or a car over 3 litres from pre 2001it will be going up to approx £350. And there was me thinking it was driving your car which polluted the atmosphere not parking it.
Personally I think its a disgrace. They say we live in a free country but if you make something so ridiculously financially punitive to do then its tantamount to a restriction of your personal freedom.
The whole system is completely unfair as well. Anyone who does low mileages is heavily subsidising all the company vehicles doing high mileages. And the used values of those cars in the highest tax groups are going to be seriously affected. Also new car buyers are going to have to pay extra for their 1st years road tax - why? Oh it might be because they have wasted all the money in the kitty and another 37 billion on top that they now have to raise from somewhere. Oh lets pretend we want to be the greenest country in the world so we can have a whole raft of new taxes to balance the books. And in the time I've taken to write this China has probably added CO2 into the atmosphere than these changes will make in a year. Other countries must look on us as the mugs of the world. Look at the brits cycling 10 miles to work and wearing shirts made of belly button fluff to reduce world CO2 outout by 0.1 % while we build more fossil fuel power stations to fund our cheap manufacturing industries.
