A310 4 cylinder - should I, shouldn't I...?

Postby classicarman » Wed Mar 19, 2008 4:39 pm

My 1973 A310 has been languishing in my folks garage now for more years than I'd care to remember. Ideally I'd like to do them a favour (not by paying them for the storage!) by finally getting around to putting the car out on the road. However, since the car entered the garage I've bought 2 houses, got married, had a child...blah blah blah...so realistically the chance of my heir inheriting something roadworthy look slim. Is it worth holding onto it or should I pop it on Ebay and cut loose? You decide...

Well your time in storage may have been a bit of investment, A310 four pots have risen in price/value quite considerably in the last few years due to monmental value increase of A110's. Best prices are to be had in France and Germany where they have been selling for 15 to 20K euro for pretty bog standard cars.
Question is will you curse if they carry on rising in price and you sold at the 'bottom' of the curve.

Cheers
Mark

Based on recent sales in the UK, A310's start at around £2K for a car that needs a little TLC rising to about £5-6K for a really nice example. Something really exceptional like a factory GT pack might reach £8K.

I missed the last one by a day or so. I would have bought it myself :(

The prices I have quoted are realistic and based on actual sale prices rather than asking prices. Most of the recent cars have sold for £4K+ with many in the £5K-£6K region.

Advertised price and sale price can be very different. There is a V6 in Practical Classics at the moment for £8950, it will probably struggle to reach £6K.

Easiest way to test the market and find a realistic value is to pop an advert on ebay with a reserve. The price it reaches if below reserve will be very close to the actual value.

I'm going to the folks' this weekend so may take the opportunity to take some photos in it's stored condition.

The front has been jacked up for years now since the suspension was removed on the offside to have a root around down there.

How do I post photos?

You have to upload it somewhere else on the web first, then put the url address between the img tags in a post.

Like this without the space:

Most people use Photobucket, as do I. Works well once you get the hang of it.
