clutch pedal

Postby cheslynjay » Sat Apr 19, 2008 11:01 am

advice please fella's so i dont get ripped off before i have the gta recovered to a garage.(i have limited knowledge/mechanical skills)

on the way home the clutch pedal suddenly had no resistance and would press to the floor easy,ie i had no clutch.
i managed to limp it home by crunching into gear when traffic lights went to green etc,but noticed once in gear it started slipping but no signs of slipping before problem.when i bought the car i was told the clutch was only 3000 miles old so could it be the clutch?or is it a cable? could i do it myself if its a cable or does the engine have to come out.
advice and support needed ive got a 7 year old in tears and im close as well.

No cable , it's hydraulic so one of the cylinders is most likely cause .I'm on my way past your place this afternoon .Give me a call and I'll have a nose .
If the clutch is slipping it may be that slave has sprung a big leak and somehow contaminated the plate ,not very likely though ........

Check for clutch fluid in the pedal box - the sometimes weep from the seal (a sure sign they're going) but if it's that bad it'll be obvious.

Also check in the 'V' of the engine. Again if it's popped you'll usually see fluid in there when it should be bone dry.

Front (master) is easy to do, rear (slave) isn't!
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Clee and Andy diagnosed slave cylinder,so purchased one from Renault
took the turbo off today and got sight of the slave cylinder and removed it.
its knackered along with pin broken and fork bent as well.
frantic call to clee, many thanks for advice so still off the road while work in progress.
I should have brought a Saxo or Corsa with a big exhaust?
