Peachy!

Postby silverdreammachine » Tue May 06, 2008 8:42 am

Hi Martin,
I have found that car fetishes make no sense. If a few people want it, it goes for stupid money. The Japanese models tend to be sought out by the young tuners who would strip this back, tweak the mechanicals, stick bucket seats in it, give it a lairy paint job and a big stereo.
Alpines just do not seem to attract the same fervour, some would say for the better but it doesn't help values. I have an excellent late XJS (4.0 litre) that my wife has been trying to sell for a few months now but the values of these cars are on the slide and it won't make more than £3k. I won't let it go for that. It's a strange market out there! :?

The GTA was known as the " invisable supercar " by the motoring trade even when new and nothing's changed....................but that car at that price is an insult.

maybe we should start a "gta drift club" to try and get the price of our cars up

of coarse this is only good news for people who want to sell their alpines.
for the rest who want to keep them and spend 6months rebuilding them it doesnt matter how much they are worth

Been trying to sell my X1/9. Paid £2400 for it - have over £5k "invested" in it. Selling for MUCH less. Loads of spare parts included in the sale - no interest. Underated and not generally desired car - yet so much fun with the roof off.

GTA's not worth close to what I paid for it. Again - just underated and not generally desired. A lot of that being people not knowing what they are.

EBay doesn't help either - I'm convinced prices are forced down. People seem to expect to pay eBay money for private sales.

Good if you're buying. Not good if you're selling.

Ebay does lead to a depression of the value, once one is sold for £x then the next the 'punters' expect to pay £x- and so on till you get to £x-------.

Whilst in France and Germany etc prices paid on the open market are still respectful, and more importaintly the asking price is normally paid.

Maybe 'we' have created a rod for our own backs, great when buying, but appaling when selling.

So Stop Selling Then!!!!

I would never sell mine - especially not for the money they're fetching at the moment!
We need to get one on the TV like the Audi Quattro on the cop program (can't remember the name of the show!) The values of them have shot up since that show!

Sequel to Life On Mars? Ashes to Ashes I think (not seen it - any good?).

Is that the one you mean?

Very true. In Macon at the weekend a guy was trying to sell a slightly untidy A610 advertised for 35K euro then reduced to 32K. He'll probably get close to 30K or at least high 20Ks.

Over here a tidy car is struggling to make £8K. The last two I bought were less than £5K. Definately a buyers market at the moment. Even the 5 turbo isn't immune with an MOTd example recently going for 5.5K.

Good idea. How about a retro 70's/80's cop show with a nice wide arch A310 and a policeman with a big moustache 8)

I managed to get a GTA onto Spooks last year and one in the Vinnie Jones film 'The Riddle' Unfortunately they were both blink and you miss it moments and the film went straight to DVD :(
