New water pump fitted yesterday :D I'm not the best mechanic in the world but I have a go (with my mate Stu onlooking and Juzz's pics he sent me). I must admit though I used muscles I haven't used for a while and this morning I'm stiffer than a W$nkers Hankey

Also completed a full service with Mobil 1 15/50 version 8), filter, new plugs and a K and N replacement air filter.

Fitted my new dipstick (old one had broken in half), all in all a good days work....

Bit of bodywork, new wheels and exhaust next!

Update time...........

Rooflining now sagging so need to stick it back.

Speedo now works, and I have not done anything!

I have also replaced the O ring gasket on the plenum (as it wasn't there at all :? ) and it goes alot better now

After a good run to Prescott last weekend it performed really well. It still runs slightly warm so I'm guessing the Radiator is the next one to be changed.

I also had crunchy/hard to select gears when I arrived, I'm going to try changing the gearbox fluid as it's OK when the car is cold, unless it could be slave cylinder maybe?

On the plus side I have upgraded the wheels and fitted Leather Door Cards to it 8)

Brand new rear grill (Thanks Clee) to be fitted next and I still have to sort the scuff on the rear bumper and a bit of lacquer peeling on the drivers door (anyone any quick fix for that?).

Martin, how are you going to go about this then, I am interested, as mine dropped last year, and I would like to know how you all go about fixing this common problem :?:

Mine had dropped a couple of months ago. I took out the old cloth complete, then scraped all of the old foam and glue off the roof with a wood chisel (not a nice job) and went to a local car trimmer who did an excellent job of fitting another similar grey cloth lining with 10mm foam (original 6mm) behind it for $200 AUD.

It actually fits behind the various bits of plastic trim nicer than when it was original.

Carpet tape I have read somewhere is a good one to try. Contact Adesive is another, as Alan decribes maybe starting again from scratch if the foam/lining is damaged beyond repair.

Believe it or not, I did exactally the same as Alan, right down to the wood chisel, but used the orignal cloth, and new 6mm foam. My car trimmer was able to get a special heat resistant spray adesive, as the heat absorbed by the roof, especially with dark colours, affects the adesive.(well it does in sunny Jersey anyway) 8) However in my case the foam had broken down, so it needed to be replaced. Renault fitted a new roof lining FOC about 2 years after I bought the car, as they had used the wrong adesive in manufacture. There is a renault bulletin on the subject. If you are going to clean off the roof yourself, I filled an empty kitchen cleaner trigger spray bottle with acetone, lined the interior with old sheets, and by spraying small areas at a time, the adesive/foam comes away quite easily, but as Alan says, it is not a nice job.
Have fun

Time for another update:

Some paintwork attended to last month. (I need to take some pictures seeing as I was calling si21  )

Taken the headlining down and started to clean up the old foam, horrible job.

Found an oil leak from the dizzy cap so I have a new seal and cap/rotor to fit.

Going to try and swap exhausts today as well. Got a more sporty one to go on, hope it's not too noisy!

Yes, and getting older, 36 today!

I do sometimes miss the loud one though. I'm keep debating whether to put the loud one back on or try something 'in-between'. What have you fitted Martin and where did you get it? :)

Happy birthday Juzz! Yes I am 32 going on 52  , I like it stealth mode most of the time so I may go back to my previous one if this is a boombox!

Anyway today was a partial success........

Removed the old exhaust (botch of a job as the downpipe has been modified to fit it  ) Got the new one in place and I am happy with how it looks

Image

Unfortunately it never goes smoothly, this exhaust was from a highly modified GTA and had another different downpipe which I did not have.
Anyway the downpipe it should attach to is on the left :? It's basically about 4-5 inches short (bend wise).

Image

I need it to be modified to fit my downpipe so I have booked it into a proper Stainless Exhaust specialist (Powerflow) to do the changes for me.

While I was in the engine area I decided to replace the left hand heatshield which was past it

Image

Thankfully I had a decent spare and after some wire brushing

Image

Then a coat of black high temp paint (need another couple of coats), we have another job off the long list.

Image

Going to do the dizzy cap/rotor over the weekend as I now have very good access to it with no exhaust :D
