There are issues with the 2 cars you mention.

I just haven't seen the right car but I have only been looking for about a month.

I know people who have spent 2 years looking for the right car!

Thanking you all for all your help and advice.

I have tried to make plans to see the cars in France but both have sold. I am not forced to by left hand steer but it would be nice to have this when I drive outside of UK and it would be good for when my contract in UK ends.

I think I can afford a good right hand steer A610 but only a left hand steer GT.

I have been told that there are parts I can buy to convert to left hand steer and when I add the prices together, this is still not expensive. If the bodyshell is the same I am able to fit these myself but I don't know if it is the same.

I guess a LHD conversion is possible, but it depends how far you want to go.
The LHD cars have different door mirrors (no need to change), windscreen wipers (RHD A610 wipers are like a LHD GTA, so that isn't essential to change), the interior has plastic mouldings over the sills (not essential but the mirror switch will need to move). These aren't vital changes. You could also leave the gear lever in the RHD location, but the handbrake will need to move (RHD cars have holes in the floor for LHD handbrake, but the cables may need to be replaced)
Harder are the peddle box and electrics, dashboard and heater- these are all quite different, so it may be quite a big job.
The actual instrument panel is moved over component from LHD, so you can probably move it back, but the lower dash and heater pipes will be hard to change. You may find the heating and Air conditioning unit itself can stay as a RHD car as the wipers will also stay as RHD.
If you download the parts book from this site and look for all the parts with a hand symbol on the D503/A610 pages, you'll get an idea of what is different. How much NEEDS to change is probably quite a bit less, if you are happy with the LHD car with some RHD features- (e.g. the bits carried over from a GTA on a RHD car that Renault re engineered/improved on the LHD cars).

"Interesting" challenge!

I understand what you are saying but UK treats these cars just as old cars and does not consider their history or heritage.

I am told that over 200 cars have been through accident and damage in the rest of Europe and the parts I have been offered is from one of these cars. Is this not saving a car which would be treated disrespectful in UK. I would keep parts from right hand steer car in case anyone wanted to convert back later.

It means I can buy a car I have money for and give it maintenance it deserves with the true knowledge that I am spending my money with wise thoughts.

I am not even saying I will do this with certainty but it gives me possibilities.

It is not as if I am doing what you allowed with the man with much stupidity on the television on your Top Gear program when he demolished a good good car.
