Help! A610 electrical problem

Went to lock my 610 the other day via the blipper and it wouldn't lock. Then this morning i also find i've lost the power windows and the button inside to lock the doors doesn't work. I checked the fuses... all fine. Is there something else i should be looking for?

Hi Alex

From the start I have to say I have never had a chance to look over a 610, but I do have a manual!!! Having had a look into your problem, it appears that there is a common component to these faults, and that is the "Central Accessory Unit" located "Under the passenger`s toe board"
This unit also controls the alarm, windscreen wash/wipe, heated rear screen, heated mirrors, and the interior fan. It might be worth checking these functions before you go delving into the CAU first. If any of these also dont work then I would have a look at the connections on the CAU.

Central Accessory Unit

Just found this pic of the CAU, and where you would find it in the LHD Alp, Clearly the unit will be on the other side, but it will give you some idea what you are looking for.

The 35pin connector would be the one I would check :wink:

PS. There are two 30amp fuses feeding the CAU, in positions 5 & 6 top left, black fuse block.
I note that you have already checked the fuses, but if you just visually checked them and found them to be ok, you must follow this up with a meter check, as in my experience fuses can mechanically break or crack, which is not visible to the eye. It is very important to check all fuses with a meter for this reason. If you did check with a meter, please ignore the last paragraph :wink:

The CAU unit can be subject to upset if water gets into it or its connectors and not all A610s are 100% water tight. It is easy to remove the unit and check connections especially for corrosion. The other factor is the earth point. This can become loose or corroded as can the cables that go to it. Again check abd re-make M9 as required. Cheers

Hi everyone, thanks very much for the replies. Very kind of you to go to such trouble.

I replaced all the fuses for brand new yesterday just in case i couldn't see the break. (i don't have a multimeter). I took the toe board off this afternoon and pulled out the CAU for a look. Pretty much as soon as i got my hands on it it started working again, intermittently at first and then constantly when i sort of pushed all the connectors to make sure they were in tight.

Obviously this isn't an ideal fix but i really haven't got the time or the equipment to look any further at the mo. At least now i'm not melting with the windows up! Anyway, when i come back from my hols and the problem persists, now i know a few things i can look at.
