think I need some help this time , moral support really more than spanner wizardry

Stick with it Lee. Many people - including me :!: - wouldn't have the skills to even start a rebuild like that. Best I've managed is a Honda CB125 - I doubt I could even get an engine out of a GTA.

I've had two professionally rebuilt engines - one in a Mk II Mustang and one in a Lotus Excel. Both went BANG within a few hundred miles. Even the professionals don't always get it right.

Third time lucky - go for it - plently of moral support from the club :D

come to think of it I think you and the mrs could do a remake of this song/video...with some suitable lyrics about your car woes..it would be a youtube hit , no doubt :)

Hi Clee mate I think Renaults have had us all at this point at sometime.......this will cheer you up I rebuilt everything on my 21Turbo front suspension .............................5 or 6 times because of a clunking noise whne you go over bumps    it still does it.......the other day I saw a spare caliper and thought whats that clip, I have never seen that before.

All that work and it was just the pads moving/rattling in the calipers  :?   . When I realised I just chuckled to myself.

Once you got her running with loads more power you'll look back and smile possible even laugh trust me I did

Keep going, at least you still got 21 ayyyyyyyyyyyyyeeee KEEP IT REAL 8)

I friend of mine was driven spare by a bonking noise in his DeLorean. He went to hell and back to work out what was causing it. In the end he found he'd left a golf ball in his glovebox...

Bonking in a DeLorean, now theres one for the imagination!

Clee, know its not something that will get sorted overnight but seems like there's a lot of positive karma on here rooting for you and that most of us have found ourselves in similar situations at some point in our car owning past (or present!).

Hi Lee

I have had my alpine close on 5 years now and am not mechanically minded so have to wait till I can afford to pay my mechanic friend to repair it. I follow all the links with interest even if I don't understand most of what you and the others are talking about. Anyway, you have replied to my requests for help and advice so I just want to wish you luck and hope lots turn out to help bank hol weekend.

After 3 or 4 attempts trying to get to a meet I finally managed to get to see and drive with some other alpine owners in wales this weekend. We had a good time and you and your probs were mentioned more than once. So hope to meet you in the flesh when she is up and running.

Best wishes
