Insurance

Postby BIG_MVS » Fri Sep 05, 2008 8:33 am

Just renewed mine, gone up slightly but still under £200. This is a bit worrying though:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/aug/3 ... ed.drivers

The owners will receive warning letters and if they do not take out insurance will be fined £100 and may have their vehicles seized and crushed even if they have never left the garage

Does this mean even if the car is off the road and SORN'd they want us to insure it? Looks like all you guys with multiple cars will need a traders policy if you haven't got one already.

Another case of the minority spoiling it for everyone else it seems!

To me, that article talks about "driven cars" accidents deaths etc. this does not really apply to cars that are off the road. However, leaving a car on the road, even if it is not driven and is sorn'd, does require insurance, even if you dont drive it about.

I'd like to see the Government clamp down on uninsured cars. They seem to very easily fine us for speeding and entering congestion zones with ANPR systems. Why not fine the uninsured and un taxed cars too. I know most of these cars will not have accurate registered keepers, but very quickly the computers will build up a route history and then they can pull the buggers over and break/sell/crush their cars or return them to their rightfull owners. If 6% of cars are uninsured, any roadside patrol on a motorway slip road will have a busy day.

Oh yes, we do live in a Police state, they drive around in Police cars, lets get them busy.

Who's a good company to insure with?

I've been using Roadsure and paid £180 first year for 3000 miles and £250 last year with 6000 miles limited insurance.

My renewal quote this year is £260 - and they've dropped the mileage back to 3000 without asking. I think I can do better.

(or maybe they've been reading the "rusty turrets" thread and know the back end is about to fall off :-) :-) :-))

Footman James, I have my GTA, A610, 5 Turbo2, 5 Gordini Turbo and my shit shifter all insured as a multi car policy I think for around £450 agreed valuation with 5k miles between the lot.

Thanks Phildini.

I didn't think of them - I used to use them when I had my Lotus's but they gave me a rubbish quote when I bought the X1/9 so I've not used them since.

They came up trumps though - £195 and an extra £12 for business cover.
