I think it was only fitted to later GTA's (89 onwards) so Lee may not.

Clock and fuel consumption rheostat fingy ??# 13 ?I've got one of them fitted .
But what's it for :?
To tell you how fast you were burning the juice ?
I'll pull it and see what happens .I haven't got a clock and when it stops I fill it up.............or pull the engine and rebuild it again and again and again .

Call me old fashioned but i'm getting a little bored of "guesstimating" how much fuel i've got left. My Cardiff-London-Cardiff trips are right on the limit...

I've run out of fuel when the readout said I had 6 gallons and it's been saying 14.5 for the last week ...........................Fill it up in London village and then again in Cardiff isn't it .

I know your right, but there's a bit of me that hates the fact that the display panel isn't working properly. Sad i know but those flashing fuel figure p*** me off!
Still 350 miles on one tank 'aint too bad i guess. I'm just a perfectionist at heart.

I had this fault many years ago and it was traced to the " Fuel tank sender electronic unit" which is mounted on the front nearside wheel arch, under the tray, under the bonnet. Replaced...problem solved.
One of the breaker lads might have one for you to try, before purchasing

Hold down the reset trip button and the change display button simultaneously to stop it flashing, and if you want a bit more fuel leeway, take out the boot liner, loosen off the jubilee clips around the sender, and pull it out of the tank as far as you can before it becomes an obstruction of hitting the bonnet/ hitting the boot liner, then tighten them back up again. This will make you 'min' value (ie 1.5gallons) in reality 2 or more gallons, as youve raised your base value.

The whole reset thing makes no difference at all on my car, it still just flashes away. It's worked for 10 mins in the whole time i've had the car...

My understanding is that the fuel gauge is a calculated figure from the last reset of the computer minus the fuel used as measured by the ECU....... which can lead to big variances over time
I run mine in "diagnostic mode". This shows the fuel gauge as a fluctuating dynamic fuel level figure (pretty accurate all of the time) and the MPG/MPG gauge as a fuel flow meter and this helps you to drive economically.
To do this, disconnect the battery, wait a while, about 10 mins should be more than ample and reconnect. After starting the car you need to press the square dash MODE button but do not ever press the little clock reset button.
This also allows your Fuel gauge to be used as a guage even if the speedo is not working.

Yep can do that too but it still doesn't give you a new reading if you fill up the car with gas, just as you say a calculation based on when you last reset the system.

BTW is it only Renault that did them? Can i get a generic one? It's a G Cartier "Temporisateur" 12v 02335 6pin at the moment....
