Haven't had the problem again so far .It was definitely heat causing the bad running .Soon as it had cooled down it was fine .I have stiffened up the sensor bracket as best I can ,will remove the exhaust and wrap it locally as well .

Hmmmm .
Would seem not to be heat .I've had it too close to the wheel :shock: :lol: Go figure .Moved it a lot further away and off center ,driven it round the bends and down the motorway on full chat for a full hour and not a miss to be seen .
I reckon it's moved and clashed with the wheel due to the heat ,I can see a slight nick on the sensor end .
Feckin GTAs seem to go against all logical reasoning .Now ,how does heat affect magnetic fields ?/?/?

Lee, I hesitate to comment on this, as I have not had much experience of this type of ignition system, however, for what it is worth, I notice the teeth on your wheel are reasonably close together, and you say you it works better moved further away, and offset. To me clearly, looking at the physical size of your pickup, there is a possibility that the tooth coming in and the one going out will have an effect on the size and shape of your pulse, and with that size of pickup the magnetic field will not be too tightly focused, also the fact that you have offset the pickup suggests to me that you are still too close even now. Also it is not the best practice to offset the pickup. In the past when I fitted sensors of this type to match to toothed wheels for the first time, our favoured method would be start with the sensor quite a long way away from the wheel, and bring it in in stages until the optimum distance is found. We would do this with a `scope looking for perfect shape pulse. It might be worth putting a number of packing pieces of ali under the bracket, or some other method you might think of, and keep removing them one at a time untill you are happy with it :wink:

I'm going to pack it out with washers till I lose signal as you say .I had it about 0.5mm away 8) But I think it moved and kissed the wheel .It's about 2 mm away now and the offset is because the sensor plastic mount has deformed ,I'll try and straighten it .I have another sensor on its way , justin .
I have access to a scope through one of my customers just down the road .He's a lapsed petrolhead so should be willing to help .

Yes thats exactly the way we did it :D Then bring it in one washer at a time, until it runs, then take one more out, and give it a blast. Final tweeking can be done with the scope. Good luck :wink:

Lee, to me (personal comment) if you clip that heat shield onto the exhaust, the heat from the exhaust will conduct through the bracket and warm up the shield plate, thereby just moving a heat source closer to your sensor ???

Another little trick we would do to overcome this type of heat problem, would be to drill 4 small holes in the corners of the sheild plate, and bolt another plate, spaced out by a few of washers, to it. The air gap is difficult to jump with the heat, and the conduction is mimimal through the small nuts & bolts. Although it may not be an issue here, its just a thought as the subject was raised :wink:

JIL is fully back in action 8)
The Adaptronic is performing very well .I shall be putting in some bigger injectors soon and should be able to run a bar of boost all day long .
Did a fair few laps round Mallory today and it's flying at 10 lbs :twisted:
Had a few issues with badly rebuilt turbos again ,ended up putting the old core I rebuilt ages ago in yesterday .The rebuilt rebuild sprang a massive oil leak on the turbine side :evil: I'm taking it back again ,again and see what they say :roll:
Plenty Flammage is back though :twisted: :twisted: ..................and I'm home under my own steam as well 8)

Yep ,got another one , it's in a box with some other stuff to go on :)
Need to get the big turbo looked at then pop the 330cc in and do the TPS .
That should be it apart from some permanent gauges for AFR and temps .
Fix a few oil leaks from the timing cover and fit a catch tank to the dipstick tube :lol:
Was getting a big miss coming out of the hairpin and another sharp turn when it had about 5gal left .Put a jerry can full in and it went away .
Next on the list is a custom intercooler and try and sort some 4 pot calipers for the std 15" fronts .Although the brakes worked pretty well ,could outbrake most out there yesterday ............Or maybe I wasn't going fast enough :lol: Pesky little 5's keep getting in the way ......

There were a few non Rens there .4 VX 220s turned up :? One went in to the armco after 3 laps I think :shock:
