I think that is bad....the A610 key is the same as most Renault keys of the 90's, Clio, Safrane etc so easy to get hold of and reprogrammed. I've never seen a GTA keyfob on anything else before and suspect it might only have been used on the GTA. The actual key is the same as my old Renault 25 however. Might be worth trying ....

You can get a key from renault. Give them your vfa number and they can look it up on their system, then get you a fob. It will cost approx £70.

JohnC - keen to hear how you reprogram a fob.

My car lost its fob - I did buy a clio mk 1 fob and some (wrong?) instructions from ebay a while back...but got nowhere...
(the fob I bought was the one that goes on the end of a key, rather than the 'standalone' matchbox shape one.)

It would be good to hear of your tried and tested method ?

Dave, the only ones I know how to recode, are the type that is shown in my pic. I may be wrong, but I do not think you can get the type that you have to work on the GTA. From what I understand from a previous post about the type you have, is that they use a completely different technology. The GTA ones work on the infrared principal, whereas the ones that goes on the end of the key, work on the Radio Frequency principal. Unless someone knows different. Sorry :( However, if you can get hold of a "matchbox" type one, then I can help.

Key fob

Not quite!
I bought the receiver unit that had water damage from a leaking roof aerial and the remote key fob that accepts the key in the end from Renault some time ago and as you say it's infra red

Key Fob

Hi John

If I remember correctly, the car didn't have a remote fob when I bought it, I bought both the receiver and fob as a pair?
I honestly can't remember having to do anything other than fit the receiver unit and it worked.
it was quite a while ago though!

Anyone know how to reprogram an A610 key? I have lost one and the got a replacement through ebay with a blank blade but now I need to reprogram the car to accept it- I'd like to avoid taking it to Renault- especially as its supposed to be simple.
Any advice gratefully received, probably best by PM rather than the open forum.
One though on the gta/lost fob thing- you can buy A610 keys (less blades) and infra-red units as a set from Renault- do these have the same pin out/operation as the GTA ones? (John??)
I was told 70 for the set (I receiver, two fobs). Blades for these keys are easy to get so you could change to A610 combined fob/key systems relatively cheaply.

Hi Lee
I`m afraid I cant tell, the cct for the GTA has the same 6 pins as the 610 one, with the + & - in the same place, as are the inputs/outputs pins 2 3 4 & 5, but a diode across pins 2 & 3, also 4 & 5 in the 610 cct, appear to be reversed when compaired with the GTA cct. This may not make a difference if you put the GTA one in the 610, as the 610 does not use pins 3 & 5, and therefore the diodes are not used, but as all the pins and diodes are used in the GTA it might be a problem.
However if I had access to a 610 Rx, I would try it in a GTA, as the worst that can happen, is a blown fuse, but I would hesitate to buy one unless I had proved it would work.

Just tried to see what you bought, but the ad has been withdrawn :cry: any chance of a pic. With regard to programming a "matchbox" type,...No problem, I will just have to work it out how best to exlpain. Its quite simple to do, but not quite so simple to explain in words, perhaps the best place is in the members area. Keep an eye out in the next couple of days, as I may have to dismantle one of mine and take a pic or two :wink:

Both types of blipper work on a GTA.

Here's a pic of the blippers for my cars. The key type on the left is for my 86 car, and the matchbox one is for my 91 car.

If you get the key type blipper and receiver from Renault they just plug in next to the interior light. If you pull out the existing receiver, the code numbers are attached on a small sticky label.

Andrew, any chance you can to get a pic of the inside of the one on the left, in as big as possible, to see if there is any resembelance to the one on the right, and to see if they can be recoded in the same way :?:
I have only come across the "match box" type for reprogramming :cry:

Just for info, I have posted the method I used to reprogram "matchbox" fob in Members Area.
