Gearbox Removal Tips

Postby BIG_MVS » Mon Nov 10, 2008 7:07 pm

Got to split an engine and box sharpish...It's out of the car on the subframe.

I have undone all the bellhousing bolts and I can get it to twist about 1 cm east to west and it goes the same north to east.(the driveshafts are off and the gearbox mount).

I have shaken rattled and rolled it but it wont budge  There is a 1 cm gap between the box and engine, I think it's stuck on the shaft :?:

Anyone got any other tips to seperate, I'm knackered and stiffer than a w4nkers hankey through want of trying!

Errr, the heatshield under the turbo which connects to the box? If so Yes.

No ....Underside ,bolted to the engine ,it's held on by 4 or 5 little bolts and protects the clutch from shite .

It's a really annoying fish-shaped shit shield that's bolted to the bellhousing but wraps around the flywheel underneath. It's held in with 4 11mm bolts and is not required on a rear-engined car (where road crap is thrown in the opposite direction). You may also have a shield over the fly opposite the starter.
