Hows the LeMans coming along?

Did not have time to snap away worked until quite late on Sunday night so it was a quick pack up and get away to get something to eat.

Hopefully rear bumper will be properly fitted during this week.

Curved pespex headlight glasses are in trial production as I write; my head of technical development (Dad) has just updated me, we will see what happens

Update.........No hammering until 2 am

Postby si21 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 2:56 pm

The rear bumper is now in a state where it can be bolted up after making alterations to the fibre glass to a repiar that had bee previously undertaken, the fibre glass was finished off and sprayed up to seal it all up and the bumper will be bolted firm in due course. I now have 2 electric windows that work  and the door trim re-fitted unfortunately I still have an open door, I have the main solenoid that but not the second smaller one which actually holds the manual release cable so I have no way presntly of holding the door shut  Mr Dell will be making a mercy dash for me this afternoon in order to try an obtain one (EVERYTHING CROSSED)

The rear side grills are all in place now.

The ........best bit...............I drove her under her own steam last night in the car park and turned her around ....................Oh Yes she lives  :P 8)

On a not so good point My Technical Director (My Dad ) is having problems with the Acrylic :? We are trying to replicate the curvature but as yet are to be succesful as Dad; in desperation set one alight    USING a flame thrower

Never mind nothing another piece of Acrylic wont fix

Getting there now .....so many jobs so little time

We already thought of that, however, the oven was not big enough to get the whole headlight glass in, they are quite big you know :?

Anyone got an Arga I can borrow for the weekend.

Well Iv'e driven her........

Postby si21 » Thu Nov 06, 2008 6:00 pm

It was short lived but I drove her 8)

After a series of problems finally rectified after spending the morning under the beloved chariot I got it drivable ( please note that prior to the proving day she had started virtually on the button :shock:and and ran ) until we came to load her up.

I Unloaded her and thats when the problems began  after various tests fuel spark etc decided it was just being a Renault

got her running and died a third of the way down the strip...... Thanks for the push guys

Once back at RHQ I found that I had major electricals ......a bad short. My Dad diagnosing the whereabouts of the problem; I got down and dirty though  It turned out to be the starter cable to the motor although in protective trunking had shorted through to wires that run under the heat sheild  :?

The good news is that the short did not damage any electrics and once repaired the car ran and started on the button so I proceedd to take her for a lap.

After one lap, my first ever proper drive of a GTA I can confirm it was TRUE LOVE I proceeded to lift the pace taking a slow in (brakes need some bedding in and possibly some more bleeding) and quicker out route, progressivley pushing her harder I was stopped by people waiving frantically. I had burst the header tank  and disapeared in a sticky steamy cloud of vapour :(

Well that was the end of the driving day for me, very frustating, especially as Renault Lutterworth was only about 5 miles away had a tank in stock but would not release it, as they did not have means to conduct a sale; even if our local Renault dealer requested it

I can tell you though that I have a couple of lighting issues and few other bit and pieces to sort out but she wil be road legal soon and I just cant wait to get behind the wheel again.

Si21 You just gotta love that 3 ltr V6 push and growl from behind

Cool Japanese cars

Postby Tony Smith » Tue Nov 11, 2008 6:53 pm

It's a bit harsh to say no Japanese cars are cool. At the moment there are many Japanese cars far cooler than anything on sale by the French - whats the coolest new French car you can buy from a main stream manufacturer? Laguna Coupe? Citroen C6? Peugeot ????.
Whereas Japan can offer 350Z, Skyline GTR (Evo's new Car of the Year,) Lexus IS-F, RX8, all different from the norm and great cars. Alpines are cool so are Mid-engined 5's and Clio's, a few old Citroens too. But there some iconic japanese cars too - the 240Z and the Toyota Gt that JamesBond had immediately spring to mind. NSX Honda too and I have to say I think my R32 GTR and SVX are both cool cars.

I never said I didn't share that quirk - uncool personality!
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

I am just happy

Postby si21 » Wed Nov 12, 2008 9:18 am

being a wierdo

I must admit when I saw the cuttaway Skyline at at the London Motorshow recently I was majorly impressed. Especially the transmission 8)

I find japanese cars funny tho' initially I think something looks quite Kooel but then I go off them wondering why or what I liked about them in the first
place. Dont get me wrong they are ok looking but just dont set me alight.

Mr Dini one of the latest Ferrari's ..............YAWN its the most bland car I have ever seen from them I would not swap it for my Lemans for looks ever! I dont even know what model it is

I saw a bloke pull up in Richmond looking around like he owned the place trying to look Kooooooell. I just laughed at him. It looks like a cheap manufacturers effort really uniteresting and almost done on a budget   Which considering some of the stunning purposeful machinery they have produced in the past I found to be very disapointing :?

si21 I am Koooell in my world 8)

Ferraris overated Fiats?

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Nov 12, 2008 3:02 pm

I've always been a fan of Italian exotics but have never been brave enough to try one. A lottery win would definitely see me buying a Lambo. Look at it this way do you want a highly complex £100k supercar built by Fiat (Ferrari,Maserati) or your highly complex £100k supercar built by Audi?

Neither. I would want a highly complex £100k supercar built by a tractor manufacturer!

Anything post original Diablo is just too 'Audi-fied' and not mad enough for me! :D What was all that nonsense with the Nissan 300ZX lights? Not a patch on the original Diablo with pop-up lights if you ask me! And they say the last was the best Diablo. Pah! Not for me!
GTA V6 Turbo - BTW check your earths!
