Alpine 1/4 mile times

Postby Tony Smith » Tue Dec 23, 2008 9:53 am

Does anybody know what the fastest a road going Alpine has run a 1/4 mile in and terminal speed? Are there any figures besides Steve's Bruntingthorpe ones? Although I know Steve's timing equipment is good the surface at Bruntingthorpe isn't great for launches and it's uphill too so the times won't be optimum.

I agree with the up hill bit, but correct me if I am wrong but isnt the pod slightly down hill and dont they put some sort of adhesive down on the track to aid traction?

I just think that if you get a reasonable time at Brunters then you can think to yourself thats a safe average. What roads do you drive on that have an adhesive sprayed down on the surface before you accelerate hard ? The next man is on the same surface as well

Same as rolling road really always compare results using the same fixed part in the equation.

Pod is slightly uphill too but not as much as Bruntingthorpe

Traction.

They don't put down adhesive but there is plenty of rubber laid on the start line which is grippy. Santa Pod isn't a particularly fast strip, Avon raceway is quicker. Some road surfaces are very grippy - much more so than Brunters

If it's working I'm well up for that

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Dec 24, 2008 2:50 pm

I'll definitely be in that - provided the cars ok. That 1/4 mile time and terminal speed for a mildly modded GTA don't add up - there is either a timing error or a misrepresentation. You would need around 240bhp per ton to run those times and I had my GTA in a similar spec to that for many years and don't believe for a minute it would been anything like that quick. Thats not far behind my Skylines times and that is much much quicker than a stage 1 GTA I'm afraid. I wouldn't be too disapointed if my 300bhp GTA made those times to be honest and thats alot quicker than any other GTA I've been in.
