Le Mans is 1235 KG with standard ABS so that's a still weight difference of 185kg compared to the A610 and that's approx 2 adults.

GTA Atmo 1140kg
GTA Turbo 1180kg
Le Mans 1235kg
A610 1420kg

I was chatting with clee about this and was struggling to see where all the extra weight is in the A610 even with the chassis reinforcements.

Compared to the Le Mans, there's

Air conditioning (but all the late GTA's and the Le Mans have the pipes, brackets and a few other items already in place so we're just talking about the condensor, evaporator and rad).

Power steering pump + heavier rack

Catalytic convertor (which is pretty heavy)

Anything else heavy?

Would be good to get a few cars on the scales to see what they really weigh in various specs.

Car Weights

Postby Tony Smith » Sun Feb 01, 2009 3:51 pm

Remember manufacturers always quote dry weight i.e no fuel. Guarantee they will be heavier by some margin if you take them to your local weigh-bridge at the dump. My unsilenced exhaust on my GTA was at least 10kg lighter than standard - AZEV wheels are heavier than the originals so every change you make will affect it slightly - even going on a diet.

A610's are nice and don't get me wrong I would have one. However I don't think they are worth twice or even 3 times the price of a GTA Turbo. In reality it's a Phase 2 GTA(hides for the hate chants), I just don't get it :?: :?

I don't think 610's are 2 to three times GTA pricing any more- A610-£4.5-10k,
GTA- £2-7K. Allowing for the fact that there are more GTA basket cases out there than, 610's because they are older, (and arguably seem to have less reliable electrics so seem to be off the road more ofter- bias not showing at all ;=))) that makes it only 50% more at best.
For that you get a quicker, car, PAS, A/C, and allegedly a more flexible engine from the greater cc's. I've not driven a GTA, so I expect to be corrected on this assertion.
Despite all this ra ra for the 610-, I am puzzled by the weight gain. Yes larger wheels, thicker drive shafts and brakes could add a little, pop up headlights will too and the A/C certainly does add quite a bit - the compressor weighs quite in my experience.
The heater is different and bigger than a GTA, but beyond that I'm not convinced at all. Happy to get mine weighed if anyone knows where it can be done.

BTW do all le mans have ABS??, I've not heard that before

I agree Martin. The A610 is a ph2 GTA. They are so similar that it takes someone with real Alpine knowledge to tell them apart. Me and a friend were once following 2 A610's down the road and I didn't even realise they were A610's as opposed to GTA's until they stopped and we saw the front. Incidentally, that was the most amazing experience when we did that, I'd love to know who they were as they drove past my house and we jumped in the car and followed them. 2 A610's is a pretty rare sight!!!

I fell in love with the A610 at its launch and for a lover of all things Renault, it is the ultimate car that Renault have ever made (debateable I suppose!). But the pureness of the shape is evident on both and I love the GTA too. I guess the rarity of the A610 has more of an influence on prices than anything although looking at the PH's website today there are some juicy prices for GTA's at the moment.

seconds eh?  I made it 1.2 seconds overall and since I was 7.3 to 60 0n that particular run and your quickest time todate was 5.8 and my Qtr was 15.6 and yours 14.4 = 1.2 seconds and I gave away 1.5 seconds on launch to 60 that mean my car pulled back 3 tenths on yours above 60    that means once rolling my car was quicker than yours through the midrange and with a lardy lump like me driving at the time its a good job my car and I are slow off the line innit.

Oh and as for proof for no traction off the line i knocked 2 tenths or more off that time with the Choclate bar kid in the passenger seat to 60 and Mr Dell can verify that. So what I am saying is its a good job I cant put the power down is it not :?:

Wondering how long that clutch has been slipping as to honest I am dissapointed on my 0 - 60 as they are supposed to do either 7.1 or 6.9 standard to 60 but there again it is slightly uphill so I guess we can all sutract about .5 seconds off the Qtr so I guess we should all be happy really

Like I said Clee built for go and not for show....as for handling put some new dampers as the ones that were fitted to the car from the factory will be tired now  a pair of uprated springs and new dampers meant I could follow you round at Brunters that day and not loose any ground at all  I can varify that too

si21  GTA's just look better doing it     and sound glorious too 8)

Simon, dearest. That old 21 of yours is slow and it don't go around corners (prescott  ). I have had enough of them over the years mate to cast judement, good car and very quick on the motorway, but it don't have the looks or the heritage. Is this www.renaultalpine.co.uk BTW or www.renault21turbo.com?

In defence of 21's sort off

Postby Tony Smith » Tue Feb 03, 2009 7:46 pm

I've had about 8 of these over the years and have alot of respect for them. On the upside they respond really well to mild mods with an easy 220bhp available for next to nothing. They are very quick in gear but get harsh and nasty when you thrash them, to be honest when you have owned cars with properly good 6's 8's or 12's in even a sweet 4 cylinder lump doesn't seem so sweet. (A case of its not what you do its the way that you do it). They handle well for a big front wheel drive car but even the best handling big front wheel drive cars don't handle like a well sorted rear or 4 wheel drive car - its alot to ask any car to put 240 ft lbs thru the front wheels. On the downside they have looks only a blind mother could love  . And don't go thinking the Quadra will be quicker - 200 kg weight penalty and 20 bhp in extra transmission losses means its only quicker in the wet in the first 2 gears and slower the rest of the time.

So - Cheap, fast, practical but tractionless, unreliable and unattractive - my two penneth for your consideration

Moooooooooooooooooooooooooon Unit

I just think people dismiss them when the oposite is true considering what they are I would expect the GTA to trounce the 21 in all respects. In fact I dont beleive you had longdrop in the car when you ran your qtr and from times it would appear that once rolling past 60 my car appeared to be quicker than yours in its latest guise. not bad for a car that was designed to be a quick rep mobile   as cpmpared to GTA purpose built sports car.

PS when you were lapping with Longdrop I also had a passenger, that's how I can verify it     despite the shite handling it somehow managed to keep up

PS my passenger was not as heavy as yours but then my cars not already stripped out has full glass and has full interior.

Tony I would only consider the Quadra in much more highly tuned modified state, minimum 250-260 BHP apparently they are building cars and tuning 21 lumps in excess of 300bhp at the fly so you cant put that power down in 2wd so I can imagine 4wd would do the car justice. especially if you lighten it strip it out, it must be possible to get the weight down to a fully loaded 2wd?

lets face it the Super Productions had 400+ in 4wd they were not slow tho'
