Ok - I've got it back to Wales now - and had a good look over it.
I stuck a battery on it , and it fired up immediately - not bad after 3 years standing. Sounds good - no smoke ,and good oil pressure.
The chassis seems sound , its had new suspension bushes , alternator , turbo , brakes , turbo pipes etc. etc only 500 miles before the gearbox went pop.All electrics seem to work - and even the handbrake works perfectly.
The bad news is that the car has suffered badly from sitting under a tree for 3 years , and though I put the mop on it - and some of it is perfect , it would need a complete respray to look presentable.Coupled with the broken box - to my mind this is not a realistic prospect to restore - and to be honest I have too many projects already
I have already saved one Turbo from the scrappies this year - so I don't feel too bad about breaking this one - and it may save a few other cars :D
I'll list bits on here as and when - but if anyone wants anything specific - let me know.

I was hoping to buy that! :x I had the same problem as MVS, lack of funds and space. My ideal would have been strip her down to bare bones, sell the strip parts to buy a gearbox and make a racer out of her. Ah well.
Think of it as a blue peter project..... only less sticky tape.

I have been in negotiations to try and save it but another one has come along so we have bought that instead.

I will leave it upto Mark to show pics/offer it if he so wishes but I think it's definately a good prospect especially now he has found some good news about the box.

As Martin has said - there is some good news with this car - firstly , the seller told me that the first motion shaft had snapped and emerged through the side of the box - which was the reason he took the car off the road.
Having got the car up on the lift , I found the actual problem - which was that the rigid pipe from the clutch slave cylinder had somehow wrapped itself round a driveshft , got jammed in the inner CV joint , and snapped it - quite bizzarre - but means the gearbox is fine

Image

Secondly, I sent Martin several photos of the underside , and he has confirmed my thoughts that it has an excellent chassis - some surface rust from standing - but zero rot..

Although the mechanicals are all excellent , with many new parts - cosmetically , the car is poor The body , though straight needs a complete respray , the screen is cloudy and chipped , one headlight is cracked , the other cloudy , and the interior is somewhat shabby.

I am therefore going to break the car , as there are several parts I need for my car , and the rest is availble as parts - Let me know if there is anything you want.
I will leave the chassis and bodyshell intact for a while - it may be of use to someone with a rotten chassis who wants to do a complete restoration.

That really looks far too good to break up.... Not kidding.

For the price you paid and the history with it there ought to be a bit of profit in tidying it up.

Would be a great shame to bust it up.

My feelings anyway.

After much careful consideration - I'm afraid to say - the car is being broken.

I understand totally the advice given by people here , but I'm afraid the truth is that the time and cost of restoring this car is just does not stack up :(
At least it will improve my own car - which incidentally I did save from the scrappies :D - and hopefully a few others as well.
i have already sold a few bits to people here , and have started listing other parts on Ebay. (markmidwales)
Once it is all stripped (which is being done quite carefully - I will offer the bare shell here - it has a VERY sound chassis , - and would be perfect for someone wanting to take on a major restoration of a rotten / accident damaged car.
Once again - please don't think badly of me , I really do love these cars , but sometimes common sense must prevail

Probably would have been easier to take what you wanted for yourself and then sell the rest on complete as a project.

Problem is (in the UK at least) there are more spares than cars now and the parts market is pretty saturated (well for body panels at least). It's getting hard to give wings, bonnets, nosecones and engine covers away let alone sell them!

Maybe you'll have some luck with parts going to Europe like BIG MVS.

Any way lets hope to see the blue one at a meeting soon.

As a general plea to breakers, please can you at least drill out & keep the chassis / oval plates & logbooks before sending off to the crusher or wherever. They may be handy in years to come when we've all got more spares than cars and want to put some back together.

Bodyshell is now listed on Ebay - (don't look if you are of a nervous disposition!!)
This car has benefitted me , and several members on here by giving up it's parts - and now is the time for it's final diposal
I have to say , having taken it apart - I have only admiration for the people who screwed these things together in the factory - they must have used midgets to get into some spaces
Get bidding Martin ! - you know you need another project
