No, Im still doing all the parts, just because I have sold my own cars doesnt mean Im going to stop my business. Have to admit, Ive had to raise some of the prices tho as the pound is so bad to the euro (explains why I have had more overseas business lately) and various products are no longer available, or not cost effective. Azev for instance appears to be no more...

Theres a new law coming in in Germany about the production of tuning parts, very strict, almost vehicle manufactures only, this is what I was told by the guy at Azev UK. I havent been able to get any wheels for ages.

This could become a real issue with so many cars running azevs - what if you bend one - whole set becomes useless because of one damaged wheel.

I can confirm Azev are shutting up shop. Through a complete coincidence, I bought a car off a family member of the guy who owns Azev, got talking wheels and it came up in conversation.

Just been reading through old threads, and found this one interesting.

Shame you could not fit an engine from another manufacturer. But i guess getting the bellhousing patterns to match would be a nightmare.

I come from a SAAB background, being an ex Saab trained apprentice. And having owned 6 SAAB's.
Saabs best ever engine was the B234R. As fitted to the Saab 9000 2.3T Aero. Specifically only this model.
It was the last engine ever made by Saab before GM took over manufacturing, and the engine is immensly over engineered.
It produces 225bhp factory. But a simple software update which can be found on the internet will take it to 300-315bhp.
Uprate the injectors, and fit a bigger turbo and it produces 400bhp. Again with no mods to the actual engine. And it will produce that power all day long, with no ill effects.

Im an active poster on the UKs largest Saab forum, and at present we are being visited be people from other car forums, such as Vauxhalls, and BMW's, and even Westfields. Since Saabs engine secret is out and spreading. The current craze is to fit a Saab B234r in a 3 series BMW, Since it makes for a more powerful car than a M3.

I have only had first hand dealings with the 2ltr SAAB lump of this generation, but can well image the 2.3ltr will be a very nicely designed, engineered and executed piece of hardware. 2.3ltr is still a thin walled cast iron block right? Rigidity is the king here, and the 2ltr certainly had it spades. I have other engine preferences, but that is what makes it all interesting and adds character. :)

However, if we are really going to consider engines on a like-for-like, then we need to consider BMEP figures only, and that at peak power and peak torque. Then we'll have a meaningful comparative measure, need to wean ourselves from BHP numbers alone (DIN/SAE etc), otherwise we would be better off talking torque. Then to balance things out for different engine constructions we could factor weight, and normalise the numbers - could consider any engine, size, configuration or number of cylinders.

Look up SAE document 640664 Small High Speed, High Performance Gasoline Engine, old now but makes very good comparisons graphically of several generations of engines. I think you should be able to find this one the net, I’m a member so it’s easy for me. There’s another good one for F1, and surprisingly enough, when the revert back to n/a the rate of progression in terms of output is surprisingly level considering the incredible advancement of technology, materials, coatings, lubrication, air-spring valve control, electronics, fuels, you name it… So there really are no magic engines as such – in the more refined designs, excluding the boners… just better packages for particular applications… Except of course the latest Fiat engine soon to be released, with completely variable hydraulic valve control- lift and duration etc, finger followers, high rpm, lovely piece of kit.. ha-ha+ :D sorry couldn't help the last bit, this was all getting too serious!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

The Saab 2.3 is the same as the 2.0. Just a few mm longer stroke.

When GM took over saab they re-worked the B2** series blocks to make them lighter and cheaper to produce. As a consequence they can only be tuned to 250bhp max. At 260bhp the crank snaps !.

I cannot remember the Torque figures off hand, but my ex Saab 9000 Aero was running at 311bhp. For me it was an idea state of tune, since the car would still do 32mpg ave.
One of my work colleages has a 2007 DB7 Vantage. From 0 to 120mph (private road of course), he could not catch me. He tried many many times, and his Aston Martin ended up the joke of the office, since it could not catch an old mans Saab. :-)

Forgot to add, as a complete opposite, the engine in my Dodge Nitro has to be the worst engine ever produced in the world.

3.7 V6. 2 Valves per cyl. Pushrod. 205bhp @ 5200rpm. And it does 15.5 mpg. It is not smooth by any means. Sounds like a tractor on idle, and sounds like it is going to explode at anything over 4000rpm.

Dont know how american car manufacturers can get away with using such old fashioned engines in this day and age.

But hey, it goes back to the leasing company in Aug. Woohooo
