Don't know why, but it started in the end by holding the accelerator to the floor and turning it over until it fired up, as if it was flooded.

It seems to be running fine so far, except the battery light is staying on. The only thing i know i haven't reconnected is a small cylinderical (aprox 30mm long x 12mm diameter) thing which was bolted to the alternator bracket and had a single wire coming off it into the loom. This wire was old and brittle and snapped off when i loosened the alternator bracket to remove the drive belt. I didn't think it was of much importance; just a suppressor to prevent radio interference or something. Is this not the case? Does any one know its function? Is this why the battery light is staying on?

Thanks.

alternator

I dont know exactly what this is, but many cars have voltage regulators on the alternator to regulate and smooth out the voltage, otherwise it can overcharge the battery. This might be the problem.

Don't know what the problem was but i checked the connections on the alternator and tightened the drive belt up slightly and the light is no longer on. Probably just needed tightening a bit! Doh!

Can't believe it was over four years ago when I changed my water pump but looks like I might have to do it again! :(

Can anyone tell me why it's making this horrible knocking noise Click me - little vid. It's definitely coming from the water pump housing.

Looks like I might have to get the spanners out and get wet again!

Just to confirm that it is the water pump, I would take the belt off, and run the engin for a minute or so.

Yes as John says check it is the pump. If it is it sounds like the impeller has come out of balance and technically speaking is knackered.

Was it a genuine one or a motor factors ebay special?

I would guess motor factors special as Juzz had to remove the pulley.

If any one is interested the web site is: www.buypartsby.co.uk and the receipt had a Nottingham motor factors address printed on it called Sutton Auto Factors. Also it cost £58, as opposed tp Renault's £156+vat!

Maybe thats why it's £58 , a third of the Renault price

Yes but that was because:

I''ve ordered a new pump from Renault and there's none in the country at the moment!

and:

I've been waiting a month now after ordering the pump from Renault and it still hasn't arrived, nor can they tell me when it will arrive! I'll have to see if I can cancel the order and get a refund!

So there wasn't much choice in the matter!

And if you can get one for £100 cheaper, well you are aren't you?

I was just wondering as I have a motor factor one fitted, I wonder how long mine will last? Maybe your just unlucky Juzz. Anymore available at Renault?
