Aftermarket GTA wheels (15'' or 16'')

Postby 2P5T » Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:17 am

I'm very interesting in a set of aftermarket GTA wheels .. possibly 7'' or 7.5'' wide front and 9.5'' or 10'' at the rear. The two difficult requirements are as follows:

1. I have to like them!

2. I definitely don't want large diameter wheels (17s and 18s) and I like a deep dish.

They don't have to be cheap and since I don't want 17s I'm thinking my choices would be limited to secondhand?

What do you know of that's out there?

If there's nothing much available, I might even consider getting some custom split-rims made up (which is unlikely to be very cheap! )

If I manage to acquire anything I'll be after some sort of suspension kit, no doubt. 8)

You're just scared a non-member might end up rocking nicer rims than thyself, aren't you, Clee?

What's this, another lurker too tight to pay membership fees....

15"?? Are you sure, 255/45/15's are currently £310 per corner. Are you mad?

Get some 16/17's on there. Look far better than the 15", they are far too small in my opinion.

If you really insist on 15" or 16" ones then I think turbodog has a lead, I'll give him a shout and let you know.

I have a set of genuine OEM BBS split rims 15" all-round, but they are only 8.5J at the rear so you can fit cheap 225/50/15s no problem.

15" & 16" tyre choice is quite limited now especially if you go wider than 9J in a 15" on the rear.

BBS split-rims for GTA

Hi Stephen,
Sounds interesting. I like many of the BBSs but I'm not certain exactly which ones they are. I saw a photo once of a GTA with cross-spokes like the Le Mans wheels only narrower (although I know the Le Mans wheels weren't made by BBS) so I assume they are one of these two:

BBS RS

BBS RM

Most of these wheel need a refurb (and rebuild) by now but I'd still be interested if they are one of these designs above. I have a friend with a VW Golf which has the RMs on it and he may know about costs of refurbishing them, new bolts etc.

If you can take a few photos so I can see the condition and give me a price I'll certainly get back to you about them. Count me as interested.

I found this in my folder of GTA pics but I don't know what these wheels are:

Maybe Le Mans wheels with a narrower outer rim?

Thanks,

Fred

I know someone who has a set of mini-lite lookalike wheels. The sizes are 7j x 15 front and 8j x 15 rear in the correct offset.
If you're interested I can pass you the number. Or if you contact Mecca parts in France they can do you up to 9.5j x 15 in Gotti wheels.
The only supplier i know who can supply tyres in this width are Longstone Tyres who do TB15 a road legal track tyre.

Here's a photo of the mini-lite style wheels fitted on a GTA

Don't know what all the 'join up' business is about, I've seen loads of posters here without the RAOC logo in their avatar! Hope you're giving them all some grief too! Having said that, I most likely will be taking up membership.

Thanks for the tyre info. Turbdog. I definitely like Minilites / Superlites etc. on some cars but wouldn't be my cuppa on an Alpine.

Rupert, thanks for theGotti offer - they're well shiny but wouldn't sway me from the BBS.
