Won't need a heap of movement as suspension travel fairly limited on the GTA, unlike if they were for a FWD car with the extra articulation necessary for turning when parking.

I am guessing Renault just made the joints like a FWD type because it was easier, and what they already knew.

I have been looking at the A610 shafts I have (I also have an Espace one). The inner joints are similar on Espace and 610, shafts are THICKER on the Espace but the 610 uses the same joint on the outside too. The Espace has a normal CV joint there.
So I think the point is right that they don't need two dimensions of movement (Up down and swivel) but I think the A610 ones allow more extension than the Espace ones.
What strikes you is that the A610 ones allow more than twice the extension of the Espace shaft.
So I was wondering if the angle of the drive shafts and suspension travel is key to the difference.
I have always assumed (not checked) that the 610/GTA has lots of suspension travel- certainly I find mine is undisturbed by the rough roads we have around here which implies lots of suspension articulation.
If so then at the limits of travel the more tolerant design of the joints would prevent uncoupling.
Of course it could just be that they are cheaper that way.

The replacement shafts have very limited movement and feel 'stiff/notchy' that's what I was most concerned about so wanted the manufacturer to see an original for comparison.

Mr D, have the new shafts been finished and tested yet sir? What are your new shafts rated to in terms of torque?
... A diamond is only a piece of coal that did well under pressure... PRV afflicted, may be I need to squeeze harder!!!!

No, it's a yes I have one here, i just haven't fitted one to anything yet to try it.
