Coolant Pipes (Rad to engine)

Postby LiamMcShane » Tue Jun 09, 2009 10:14 pm

Hi Guys. Been a while since I've been on. Have been busy trying to get my new business off the ground and looking after my new young 'un (6 months old now!)

I'm looking for a set of metal water/coolant pipes that run from the front to tha back of the car. I tried my Renno stealer and they say that there's none in stock anywhere in the UK and could take 4 weeks or more to come from France, if they come at all. Any help greatly appreciated as I'd love to get it back on the road for the summer.

Thanks

Richard maybe?

Surely you could use just copper pipes if you know the correct diameter? Engine out job though so I'm told. What are wrong with yours, are they corroded badly?

I've ordered them from the local stealer. Hope they arrive soon (although they weren't showing as stock). I'm replacing them cos they have been leaking a bit for a while now. Richard's taking it to fit all the parts I bought about 18months ago!!! Chargecooler, turbo etc and also to sort my problem with second gear, so while the engine's out I might as well sort out the rest of it too!!

The replacements are stainless steel so much nicer if yours don't turn up.

They were less than £100 per side two years ago and much cheaper than the originals at the time. They kept the rusty originals as patterns but said they would be slightly more to produce next time around £200 PAIR.

The originals are cheaper at the moment than when Simon needed his so are a resonable option:

LH = 112.64 + VAT
RH = 80.12 + VAT

= £192.76 + VAT PAIR

So nothing much in it, just depends whether you want OEM or stainless. They are difficult to transport as well due to length which is oversize for most regular carriers.

I think there is one welded join in each of the stainless pipes whereas the OEM are seamless IIRC.

BLARGH! Stainless steel coolant pipes in a system with an aluminium engine? NOOOO!

If you do go with this, MAKE SURE you change the coolant every two years and use decent anti-freeze. Your pipes might not corrode, but your engine will.

For "Electrolyte" read "coolant".

Hmmmm .... judging by the state of some of the liner base locations I've seen I can well believe it :shock:
I don't think the pipes will make that much difference though :wink:
You should be changing the water/antifreeze regularly in any case on a 20 year old Renault ...If not by desire :lol:

I've already ordered the pipes from Renno, but if they don't turn up I'll give you a shout. Thanks

Believe it or not I'm still waiting for one of the pipes. Looks very much like it'll be at least next year before she sees the road again! Why can't Renno provide spares for their heritage models. Makes me wish I'd bought an MG! (Well maybe not, but it's looking more appealing! :? )
