Distilled Water in coolant opinions please

I am about to re-fill the coolant on my A610 after a really good flush, what do you guys think about re-filling with Distilled Water ??

Any advice will be appreciated.....

not a bad idea, distilled water, but I personally would put Water Wetter in. :) :) :)

never user water wetter, or is it wetter water? but its got a great reputation for improving cooling system effeciency....so its probabaly a good idea.

Distilled water would reduce the chance of corrosion, but adding anything to it (like Anti freeze) might negate the benefits, I would have thought good antifreeze should be enough with Tap water. Mind you you live in ahrd water area...

Phildini- does the A610 have the same issues as the GTA with radiator pipes being halfway up, so a rad flush means removing it altogether?

Yes I have removed everything because i am rubbing down the chassis legs etc and painting them with POR15, but I think if you want to do a proper flush you will need to remove it. I can tell you where every nut and bolt goes on these 610. Hey metters I have another job for you.... behind the rad there is a long bracket that holds the inner spoiler and the wiring for the rad and the ABS, on my car I am replacing it with an alloy one because the OEM it's thin and rusts gets to hit very easily.... check your one out before the wires start hanging down :wink:

Have you took lots of pictures of the project along the way Phil? Would be great to see the whole story of rebuilding a 610 at some point. What were your sills like by the way?

Yes lots and lots of pictures.My sills are ok together with my wheel arches I think I got there just in time. The front wheel arches when i removed the underseal it did have some minor surface rust, I now painted the arches with POR15 and the sills loaded up with cavity wax.

I am now re-fitting the front end and I have to say it's proving to be very tricky as everything has to be ligned up,nosecone, bonnet and wings, what a nightmare!!! :twisted: :evil: Also the lovely HOT weather it's not helping...... 8) 8)

Hot weather should help, it means you can stay outside for longer into the night fettling with your pride.

Distilled water (which is just demineralied) would reduce salt deposits & calcification, but I don't think it will stop corrosion or electrolysis. It is still water after all.

Best to add loads of anti freeze to ordinary tap water as this will inhibit corrosion.

Distilled water is for irons and car batteries as you don't want salts coming out of your steam iron neither do you want other minerals in your battery.

I am using coolant mixed with distilled water.....I have asked quite a few people and they all say it's a good idea as it helps to keep the temp. down too :wink: :D

"helps keep temperature down" - well yes, it's coolant, that's what it's for...

You'd be hard pressed to notice any difference between tap water and distilled water, except for the weight of your wallet afterwards. But if it makes you happy... :wink:

Water Wetter

I've used that in my chargecooler, supposed to run a degree or 2 cooler than water with antifreeze. I've seen super coolant for motorbikes which is similar too. Bit expensive to put in as engine coolant I'd have thought
