Apparently this is a common problem so have done the obligatory search and found that a Ford Fiesta boot solenoid would do the trick.
Can anybody elaborate a bit more info on this part for me....part number?
Also is the solenoid the usual suspect [dont want to replace it if there could be another demon living in the door
Don't know what Ford part it is but there will be nothing hiding in the door as there is nothing in the door
It's all in the body ......Edit ...apart from the door switch of course .

Check you have voltage at the solenoid this is a timed voltage approx 10 sec to open door then reverse voltage to power lock closed again hope this helps
Thanx Clee and Turbodog....invaluable info. cheers for that.
Before i go buying any solenoid i will test the voltage. The fun part is going to be actually getting into the area as the drivers seat mechanism wont go forward
If you want to get to the timer relays for checking, they are located under the Radio. The easiest check for them is to swap them over and see if the fault changes to the other door.
