Gents, this is one hell of an awesome venue, just read this.
Starting in front of the Control Tower,
the course starts off under the road bridge and around the banked
turn before heading along the main ‘back straight’ for nearly 500 mts.
Turning 90-left and then 90 right at a chicane adjacent to the Centre
Circle, the course then heads into the infamous Snake. The Snake is
the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ with its negative camber bends and of course
the enormous crest at the top of the hill. It isn’t the place for the
faint-hearted although without exception, every real driver loves it.
Sweeping right ahead of the long left-hander by the Golf Course,
competitors then drop slightly as they round the long right hand bend
before the climb uphill and over the crest. A double-apex left-hander
follows before exiting the Snake at its junction with the outer track.
A quick blast along the outer before turning 90 left and 90 right into
the Finish Straight alongside the Suspension Courses.
The overall length of the course is well in excess of 2 miles of fast,
testing super-smooth asphalt suitable for drivers of all levels of
experience and capability. For those who have never been to
Longcross, make no mistake; there isn’t a runway or landing light
anywhere in sight!
Being ideally placed just a few miles from the M25 (J10), Longcross
offers a hard-standing paddock, acres of space, permanent toilet
facilities and is ideal for all the family.
It takes place this Sunday, the 19th. It really is fast (brooklands style banking), exciting (chance to get airbourne for the brave), tristy and pretty long too.
see
www.scmc.co.uk, Scorpion Sprint for regs.
Open to Spectators too.
I will be deciding tonight, but hightly likely I will be there.
PS, 4WD cars are in a seperate class.
Due to financial losses, £1200 per event, Sutton & Cheam MC are now backing out. The Venue is extensivly used for filming, and they can command big money to hire it out. This costly venue no longer fits in with club level motorsport.
