Winter plans

Postby Tony Smith » Sun Oct 11, 2009 4:36 pm

Well time for the Gta to go into hibernation for the winter again but will be having a fair bit of work done ready for next year. Engine will be out to have the crank seal replaced. Bigger injectors and a bar of boost to get over the 300 bhp mark again. Then have the body detailed to get her looking her best again. If AZEV reappear may go for a new set of wheels too. Have recently bought another GTA with some superficial damage which I have an interesting plan for. Would like to try and get a 3.5 Vel Satis (350Z) lump and and adapt to fit. Or alternatively an early V6 24v Clio lump. Appeal of the 3.5 though is bulletproof japanese reliability and more tuneability - bolt on forced induction kits off the shelf to give 380 bhp!
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

Tony, I recommend a gearbox rebuilt from GTO cos when that engine finally achieves its goal, it will break things.... (according to Kevin)

Mmmmm...tempted but im interested to see the internal construction of the std exhaust box. plan is to cut it open, clean it out, remove any restrictive wadding and look at making it more free flowing.reskin box with sheet steel coat with anti corrosive compound ,refit and start it up. :D :D :D

Andy,

Did you remove the Turbo to do your clutch slave? I am going to try and attempt mine with the heat shield removed but the turbo in place?

Cheers

i used to work at renault uk leeds in the bodyshop so i rang and got the recomended method from a machanic friend.
remove turbo heatshields.slacken the unions between exhaust manifold and turbo inlet so that they are loose.remove bolts that secure the turbo mounting plate.at this point you should just be able to pull the turbo and mounting upwards about 2 inches, underneath there is a heat shield, remove this stick your head in right up to the bulkhead and you can just see the slave .remove bleed pipe and hydrolic feed pipe. remove 2 bolts that secure the slave.fit new unit, bleed, test clutch.engin not running.
it would be good at this point if poss to inspect the connecting pin between the clutch pushrod and pivot arm as these have been known to snap, mine had  replaced it with a 10mm bolt and nylock nut.sorted
this is a real back breaker of a job and its real tricky spanner work in thr confined spaces , just give yourself plenty of time and dont forget to refit the slave heatshield

good look
