Andy.

Thanks a lot for the info, will come in really useful.

Wanting to replace it as past couple of years the clutch has started biting right near the floor when it has been used hard and a hot day (sometimes still creeping forward with the clutch right down when it has been sitting still with the engine running for a while). It is fine when cold with a nice smooth action and no crunching of gears or anything. I replaced the fluid a while back and got better but still not perfect. The fliud that came out was quite black so I think that the rubbers have perished on the slave and the fluid is creeping past when it is hot. I have a spare rebuilt slave ready to put on the car and I will wrap the pipes and cylinder in heat wrap to ensure this does not occur again.

Also mine is a late GTA and has the re-routed pipes so should be better for this heat sink issue?

Cheers

To be honest you'd be better off removing the turbo altogether .
You will have to disconnect the oil and water pipes( if fitted ) and the down pipe to move the turbo assembly at all .Once you've done that you may as well undo the exhaust pipes from the collector and take the whole thing out .
You will then have far better access and be able to see what you are doing .

Check the water feed pipe on the turbo as well if it has one .You might find it's a water plug

Lee.

Now you have got me thinking!

Check the water feed pipe on the turbo as well if it has one

I wasn't aware there was a water feed to the turbo, I thought there was just an oil feed? This started happening after I replaced my radiator a couple of years back (maybe a coincidence)? The rad was leaking and also the bottom half was blocked up with sh*t ( the usual problem where the pipes are halfway up etc). I flushed the system when I changed the rad to try and get rid of all the crud, but now I am begining to wonder if the water feed to the turbo got blocked up with crap and maybe the turbo is getting hotter than it should be?

a) Does this sound feasible ?
b) Has anybody got any pictures of the feed pipe, and do I need to drain the system to take this off or is it high enough that I will just loose the fluid at the connection and just need to re bleed for airlocks?

Think it is worth a a check before I cut my hands to shreds andx swear a lot changing the slave !

Thanks
Brad

Every one I've removed has been blocked solid with shite .You can remove it quite easily ,it's the highest point and you wont need to bleed after .
You want to check the water drain pipe also ,I've just done one and that was solid as well ,took 30 mins to dislodge the crap .
It won't be the cause of your problem though .Early cars ran with just oil cooling and the turbo I run now is just oil cooled and running 18 psi with no clutch issues .

My winter projects --

1. Attend to the lacquer on the front bumper on the 1991 red turbo.
2. Finally get around to installing the new headlamp glasses on the 1986 blue turbo.
3. And swap the engine and respray the 1990 red atmo. I may call on Andy for this.
