EVO top 100 driver's cars

Postby Stunned Monkey » Tue Aug 25, 2009 1:16 pm

I hope this hasn't been mentioned already but in the current issue of EVO which I purchased to read on the plane the other day, in their top 100 driver's cars of all time, the A610 features at number 55, beating among others:

F355
Bugatti EB110 & Veyron
XJ220
Vanquish
Porsche 959
McLaren F1
Diablo VT
Original Mini cooper
Enzo
Koenigsegg CCX
E-type

But losing out to

Noble M12
Carrera GT & 911 turbo
NSX
F40, F50
Elise, Exige and Atom
Esprit V8 sport 350
Nissan GTR

...and the Clio V6 at #25

The top ten is a bit of a swizz if you ask me - featuring both the Zonda at #1 and the Lotus 340R, both of which are owned by one of the senior writers for the mag. Oh, and the Clio trophy and Megane 225 are also in the top 10 :D

Very nice to see the A610 come ahead of the Veyron and Enzo.

The Tour of Wales people might recognise a lot of the places and the car park where the top 10 are parked on the front cover and at the start of the article!

Not very flattering though, they must have been elderado fans....Velour...not always

55 RENAULT APLINE A610
France’s plastic-bodied answer to the Porsche 911 is simply too quirky for most tastes. The tacky interior and velour trim didn’t do much for sporting ambience when it was new and seem naffer still today. The striking styling and beefcake performance have aged more gracefully, though, but the heavy rear engine means fairly raw 911-esque handling traits and either a big dose of skill or caution in the wet. Get it right, though, and it’s a characterful and utterly absorbing drive.

Layout: Rear-engine, rear-drive Engine: V6, 2975cc, turbo Power: 250bhp Top speed: 160mph 0-60: 5.4sec Years: 1992-96

I agree, unless you have really mint leather then that wins hands down.
