MOT - parts required

Hi there, would be most grateful if anyone can help - I'm trying to resurrect my GTA Turbo after almost a year in lock up. For the MOT I need (amongst other things and according to garage), an o/s rear shock absorber.

If anyone can direct me to such a part (or pair (might as well get both done at once?)) at a reasonable price, that would be great. I've seen adjustable replacements etc. etc. but would rather get a standard replacement if they can still be had.

Brakes need work too but garage is happy to refurbish where they can. Just for a laugh they contacted Renault and were quoted £800 for pads alone - I guess at that kind of price, they can always say that they can still supply parts, 'cos they're not going to shift any. I reckon I've seen upgraded pads for less than £100 (front and rear) on eBay, but I could be wrong.

I have a pair on a breaker .

Hi Djd,

Are you planning on doing the work yourself? If you are looking for a thorough health check and near Clee above I would suggest letting him check your car over, he's very resourceful at getting parts at the right prices and rebuilding.

hi mate, did all my brakes last year stops on a pin now.
std discs £80
std pads £30
new master cylinder £38
rear calipers reconed £180 :shock: but worth it came back like new.
discs from internet supplier everything else from large motor factor.
master cylinder is a bit of a pain to fit but the rest is straight forward.

Hi Andy, I've been recommenderd to chat to you about doing the body work on my project, will drop you a pm, not sure the extent of bodyshop project you take on?
This will have one of my project engines, but I don't get into the body mod, prep and respray stuff and will be a number of mods depending on the final intercooler arrangement etc

Thanks folks for coming back to me - I think I've got the parts I need for the brakes under control now, and Clee, cheers for looking into the shocks for me, let me know how that goes?

I wish I were close enough to Clee to drop the car in for a thorough check-up. As nice as it is up here in Edinburgh, it does have its disadvantages - barely anyone has seen a GTA in recent years, let alone worked on one. It would be good to have a knowledge base here that I could go to for help in these situations - ach well, the forum members here have been great with remote help and advice.

Maybe I should just remortgage the house and buy a RenaultSport Megane or Twingo?

May be to late now but Lothian brakeways in Dalkeith will be able to sort your brake parts out at a good price

Nah, keep the faith, the excellent crew on this site should be able to help you cover everything. Big MVS drops by close to you with work, and sure will be there with breaker parts. I used to do the drive back and forth between Newhouse and London every weekend to get back home, and M1 drop off at Lee's was about 3hrs down the road so not bad at all. So if a southern softie can do it.. Lol

Dampers are off and look OK .No leaks and the gators are A1.

Best to leave assembled with springs as your guys can just bolt them on complete in half an hour :D
