SCRAP SCHEME WHAT BULL MERDA

Postby phildini » Tue Nov 10, 2009 10:58 pm

Guys Today I rescued the car below from going to the crusher. As some of you know I work at a Main car dealer. This poor British Heritage was about to go to Classic car heaven. I know some of you might end up slagging the thing of, but it does have a lot in common with the GTA. It's plastic like a gta, it's a V6 like a GTA, 2+2 like a gta and they nearly share the same name GTE! The previous owner spent a fortune on the mechanical side of things, but not much on bodywork. Don't know what I am going to do with it but the MOT is long so...........

Well done Phildini!!!!!
Another underrated & undervalued car the Scimitar.
Mine is a 1974 SE5a. Great cruiser and with the towbar great tow car.
Well may you use.

I thought when something was chopped in against the scheme, it HAD to be crushed? I personally think it is disgusting that a lot of perfectly respectable cars are being condemned. There was a feature in Autocar about it a few weeks back and one car that was about to be crushed was a 1400 mile Fiat Bravo (OK, not a great car but was like new!!). Other's ready to be crushed were a 70k miles Merc E-class, a number of perfectly useable Honda Civics, a nice MGB GT, an Audi 80 cabrio etc. The government are saying it is to help the environment and reduce emissions of old cars which is utter bullocks as building a new car to replace a perfectly serviceable 10 year old one is hardly good for the environment.

You have to also worry that when the money does run out, the new car market will dry up too as everyone will have bought there shiny new tin-pot Korean runabouts.

The americans are up in arms too. Go to YouTube and type in "cash for clunkers engine seizing" for some painful viewing.

Their regulations are for any car with an mpg worse than 20 but a lot of places are ignoring it and destroying perfectly useable, economical modern cars.

with a Ford V6 you could actually make it to the motorway where as the PRV barely gets warmed up before breaking down

They even look Scimilar

Strangley enough I saw one this morning being used as a daily driver, well at least he looked like he was driving to work. whatever that looks like these days.

I thought about one when I was younger but would not consider one over a GTA not even a static model  :

Mr Dini, you and your car are proudly displayed on Page 3.

Luckily, it is Classic Car Weekly.
