I never believe the manuals ...well ,at least as far as the electrics are concerned ,seen far too many anomalies :lol:

I know what they say but then they say I have a sensor in the sump .....

OK I'll swap the wires over and hopefully this will resolve the problem :D

Be nice for a fellow 610 owner to check which wires are on which sensor tho nudge nudge :wink: :wink:

I still think there is no ' PROBLEM '
The fans and switch are just doing their jobs ........why the feck do you think there is a problem ? The fans work and so does the warning light when it gets too hot after being sat for a while getting heat soaked ...It then cools down and WTF!!! the light goes out FFS :roll: :lol: :wink:

Sorry ...just been trying to explain areas of tennis courts split into segments to a 10 year old that would far rather be playing Star Wars on the PC .......LOOK IT DOES ALL MAKE SENSE YOU ARE NOT APPLYING THE METHOD CORRECTLY :lol: :lol:

Shat it you tart, is it time of the month or something. :lol:

I need my hand holding with Alpeen issues. I don't like warning lights and they usually come on for a reason so I would like to fix it.

Like I say I'll swap the wires over and see how it goes mon brav :wink:

Just had a look at mine (A610 for which I have never seen the overheat lamp yet but the fans definitely work).
The way the loom is constructed with the sleeving it should only fit one way, the wires split from 4 to two pairs, so the bottom pair should be a tight stretch to fit onto the top thermostat- but it could be possible.
On mine its top thermostat (couldn't see the value) is connected between a black and a black/white striped wire (should be plain white according to the wiring diagram- maybe its dirty)- this should be to the 90 degree thermostat and controls the fans. This makes sense as it should turn on first as its higher (therefore hotter as heat rises) and at a lower temperature value.
The bottom 'stat is connected between a blue and brown wire and should be the 120 degree one. This should control the light. This lines up with the wiring diagram.
I wasn't able to check the cable numbers, but as the pairs of wires are sleeved as pairs too, and the black and brown wires are connected to the same earth point, I can't believe that you can connect them up incorrectly without trying hard or cutting the sleeves off.
As yours is the same as mine, and they line up with the wiring diagram they must be right
So therefore the only thing left is to test the thermostats to make sure they come on at the right point. 90 degrees should be easy, 120 more of a challenge unless you can use the oven.

Hope this helps- it was cold out there.....unlike your engine bay...by the sounds of it.

Does it also get a bit dirty ?More so after when it's been driven in the wet ?Now lets see, what could be the problem be ? ....Ahh that's it ....Big Northern jessy :roll:

Thanks Mr Metters.

So my wires are correct but it seems the 120 degree sensor is in the top rather than the bottom. Or could it be that I have 2 120 degee sensors in there (the light comes on before the fan?) But then I would expect the fans to kick in when the light comes on....hmmm :roll:

I thought I had......The lower 90` sensor thick wires...White and Black ......the upper 120` sensor, thin wires...Blue and Black or Brown. But in all fairness Martin, the colours are not an issue, you have two nautral pairs distinguished by thick and thin, and we know that the thick ones are for the fans due to the heavy current drain, and the thin ones are for the light. We have proved by part No. that the top sensor is the 120` one and must have the thin wires, and therefore the thick wires go on to the bottom sensor :wink:

Im confused now because Lee Metters says his are wired up the same as mine, thick wires going to the top sensor, thin wires going to the bottom, is that correct Lee?

Having just read Mr Metters contribution (after I had posted mine) and noting that his 120` sensor is the lower one, the parts list shows it as being the top one, the same as the GTA. But you could be right that for some reason you have two 120` ones. It looks like you will have to get your lower one out and check its part No.

Hi- I cannot see what temperature rating they are- what I can tell you is the colours of the wiring- black/white at the top and blue/brown at the bottom.
According to the wiring diagram the white/black should have a 90 degree between it (and on mine that is the top one) and the blue/brown (bottom on mine) should have a 120 degree. Confusingly the workshop manual says 100 degree, but it is the same part number as a GTA so who cares?
When you look at the parts list the part are the same numbers for an A610 and a GTA in the same locations- but that shows the temperatures being the other way around from the 610 wiring diagram (and the GTA manual says the fans are controlled by the 90 degree but is not so clear on which one goes on top) .
A610 workshop manual puts the 110 degree (?) switch at the bottom and a 90 degree at the top.

So my vote is the parts book is wrong, should be a 90 degree at the top and this lines up with my car, which works fine and never has the overheat light on (so far). I suspect that the Parts book is also wrong for the GTA which explains the number of cars with the wrong value switch controlling the fans (see other threads).

Sounds to me like Martin has a 110/120 degree fitted at the top (should be a 90 according to the wiring diagram and workshop manual) as a result of the parts book error.

Checked the bills/service history I had with the car and noticed in 2001 it had 2 new "thermostatic switches". Just checked again this morning and the 90 degree one is in the bottom, 120 degree one in the top. I think the mystery is solved :lol:

So it's basically had no engine bay fans working for 9 years :roll: Never mind.

Swapped them round so I'll give it a go today, will probably need a very hot day to test properly.

Looks like we have had a result anyway, fans kick in a lot more and the warning light didn't come on at all :D
