Simon, technically speaking it's the second build with my weird science idea. The first was a different spec and built
with 3ltr n/a head castings, swapped headers etc and used a Laguna starter (need smaller diameter to get it in the available space left) modified to get the
pre-engage rotated round to point down to clear. It was only retained on two fixings, not ideal, so the alternative
on this build, which has the pre-engage in the right place from a different engine doesn't unfortunately have the right engagement length, hence Lee's mod.
The headers are only one part of the picture, and the rest is hard work ;p

They weren't finished at that point, and a load of other machining and port finishing followed. This was the raw ports cut to size, seat inserts in and multi angle seats finished.

There's some good engine projects in the club at the moment, so should be interesting testing later in the year.
Tony's and Lee's have some common lineage from my original build and flow tested but with different choices. Tony and John's (self mod post valve seat and throat cutting) has port mods based on OE sized valves: selected inlet penny on a stick (nail) design.
And just back-cut exhaust valves. Saves a substancial amount of cost on replacing all the exhaust valves and seat inserts, with the compromise of reduced flow potential. Port work from my photos etc has been done very nicely by John and expect some good results.
Tony is going equal length exh fabricated header and HTT GT series roller bearing turbo.
Has the same cam as my original build, and very much think he'll want more :)
Both engines have the compression reduced, similar head cc (Lee's does have lower CR) and piston mod. Both have the same inlet valve OE diameter on 30 deg seat. Bottom ends all OE, and for this state of tune more than adequate.

Lee's has all of the above ++ i.e. larger exhaust valve, twin interference valve springs to accomodate increased cam lift (std 7mm, Tony's 8mm, Lee's 10mm),
Revised and flow tested inlet and exhaust port mods, and special experimental grind cam.
Mods have been done in line with keeping Z7U theme, so std headers (and std turbo fitment hardware) are being pushed hard, and reversed to squeeze every last ounce of non-turbulent flow from them.
There are a number of other mods, but depending final turbo choice, and of course if it stays togther (cam and followers mostly), this package will easily exceed 300hp at the flywheel and support up to about 350hp. Possibly more in twin-turbo
arrangement which is the likely next stage.

The power is in the head and ring package for this engine, and as such there is much development that can be done. I'm currently working on what I should have done for Lee's
at the time if I had the valves available at the time, and that's a larger inlet on a 45 deg seat.
So will be working on that and likely shoot Lee's way for in car testing at the end of the year.

All stripped again ....Clean it all up again ......Might need a suspension bush or two again ...might put new bearings in again ......I do need some new antiroll bar bushes if they are around ? Mr D ?

Really liking this thread, wicked build clee! It will be interesting to see what she gets on a rolling road. I feel a rolling road group day should happen!!!

I'm still having a fink about that :lol:

All together ish though .
The 3l ' Y ' pipe will not work though as the inlet plenum won't seat with it on .Going to have to be the GTA one OR perhaps with some Atmo inlet to head gaskets it will come up enough to clear .

Nice coming together well, looking great :) Don't forget just block the two rear water outlets.

Heck the silencer came out close to the headers, laugh!

Getting excited now Mr C? :D I am now 8)

Oh by way, can't remember on your old setup were you running without a dump valve? Any problems?

No problems running without and sounds 8) as well .The down pipe could have done with sticking out a tad further but Jim erred the right way .
Not sure if the dipstick pipe will fit :lol:

Y pipe - need to hack saw just up from the Y section, I'll try and find a photo and ping you. You need to cut-off the joiner stuff if you get what I mean. You will see the Y joins, then has a short straight section (this is all in the cast bit), and then S bends to the centreline of the pump outlet. Cut the S off, and can bond in a length of straight copper pipe running right to the front of the block... think you need a photo :wink: me communication skills are known to suck!
