Normally the mid season events in this championship are popular (with the exception of Forrestburn because its probably the finest hillclimb but its in a Beirut type setting!!!!) because they are the 'glamour' events like Barbon, Harewood and Knockhill (because its a national round not location!!!). Will be interesting to see how the new events at Teesside and Elvington go down.

Just looked at a few photos/maps of Forrestburn and does look like a cracking course but in a bleak setting, as for Teesside it's a new facility with nice new buildings?? etc so it should be popular.
As for the nationals it was mentioned at the Gurston test day, that there was a full list of 160 regsisterd competitors for the hill climb championship and any locals may not get a look in  Popular or what?

I do the 2nd Barbon event which isnt the national, having said that they can only run 60 cars at Barbon and the Midlands and Longton championships also go so it will be full. I did the Barbon national 10 years ago (got on Sky tv!! :D ) and when you submit an entry you have to enclose a letter giving reasons why they should give you an entry!!!!! Barbon charge spectators £7 to get in!!! Outrageous, and yet they still get 1000s......which is nice!

Over all it seems that speed eventing is getting popular with both competitors and the general public which can not be bad as long as the entry fees don't go to high.
I`ve also been on TV with my car at a national event for a motoring program that was shown three times in two years on the local ITV channel
should have asked for some royalty fees

Well it was a huge pyrrihic victory today! Came 1st and beat the modified runners but on the 2nd run this morning Alpine met tyre wall at about 30mph  Its still working fine but I now need a (very cheap) bumper, passenger side indicator, headlamp glass and lots of spray painting. I sent David a photo of the damage on my phone.......perhaps it could be transferred from the Vodaphone site onto here????? bigger!

Well just had the first two meetings at Gurston Down hillclimb with a reasonable results.
Saturday there were 6 in class RS500 (370BHP min) myself, Audi TT, Escort cos ex WRC reccy car, Audi Quattro & a Scimiter GTE.
Dispite all my efforts I had to settle for second place with the Rs 500 taking first.
Sunday there was 7 in class, as above but no Quattro, but with a wrx scooby and a Lotus Sunbeam.
The timed runs started just as the rain began to fall and the course was a bit on the wet side so I had to settle for Third this time behind the Rs 500 and the scooby
Not bad start to the season??

I was there on the Saturday (spectator) and on the afternoon run the A110 exited the corner just before Deep Leap and lost all transmission :( , he rolled gently back down the hill and was towed away after the session ended.

I wondered what happened to Peter, the last I saw he was standing by the car down the slip road waiting for recovery.
How was it from a spectator point of veiw?, as it hard to jugde any reaction from the public as all they seem to intrested in is Fix Or Repair Daily cosworths with their tails hung out!!
Anyway check this picture gallery link out

From a spectator's point of view it look as though someone had simply switched the engine off - in reality the engine was still running but he couldnt catch a gear , tried for a while and then rolled it backwards down the hill.
When he was eventually towed away you could he a metallic clonk every now and again so either the gearbox or maybe a half shaft broke.

It was a great shame really, I spoke to Peter just after I arrived and he was putting in some respectable times. Didnt get speak to him after the event, I think he made any early exit.

Yep, a red Renault 21 turbo, number 100
Peter was putting in good times (41.57s on first timed run) considering that he was proberly giving away up to 100 bhp and 400Kg against Westfields & Caterhams. I hope he manages to fix the car in time for the next meeting??

Well the car is looking shiney and new and it goes like stink in a straight line and the Knockhill national speed championship beckons on Saturday. As well as the usual opposition there's a VX220 which should prove interesting. I will be quicker in a straight line but he will be quicker on the corners and under braking so it should be close....assuming he can drive the car (last year a friend beat a similar car in a Rover 220  ). need that brake upgrade David!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
