Nice... beginning to see the appeal.. plastic tub, no go and 30 year old technicals... vs nice plastic tub and modern technical’s... scratch head, why did I inflict the former on myself?? Ah well, laugh .. ah yes yes the PRV tuning challenge!! The luni asylum must see me coming.. :)
... A diamond is only a piece of coal that did well under pressure... PRV afflicted, may be I need to squeeze harder!!!!

It's been months and months since I posted here. Apart from the occasional few miles my Atmo is pretty much off the road awaiting rear wishbones, anti-roll bar, bushes etc....

Every time I hit any sort of bump the back end sounds like it's about to drop off so it's no fun to drive at all presently.

Mr Dell is getting the parts together for me so all being well E100JRK will be back on the road in a few weeks.

Next job after that will be rust proofing, then a complete brake system refurb' as all the discs are rusty and pitted (old age and lack of use), at least one of the pipes does not look too good and the flexible hoses look like they were fitted during the stone age.

With this much work being needed I have thought about calling it quits and breaking her up - after reading the other post about how few are left I am extremely glad not to have contributed to the extinction of the GTA!

Even if I will have emptied the Scott bank account in the process :(

So .......I decided to start checking the Alp over in readiness for Macon.......Green Stuff pads from EBC, and change the brake fluid...no problem there then, all done and sorted. However whilst checking around under the front, a couple of drips of water on the back edge of the under tray,..... radiator?
Got the lamp through the wheel arch and slight rusting along the bottom of the rad, So front bumper off. Inspect the rad, no actual wetness along the bottom of the radiator core, and no waterstains on undertray, but the wetness seems to be comming from the bottom of fuel tank protection cover.
Anyway because of the rust stains, and not wanting to take any chances, off to my friendly Renault Garage..... "You`ll be lucky" was the first reaction, part No. not on their computer, but he says that he will give Renault UK a call. According to them it is available...... 2 weeks. Storeman not convinced..... he decides to call someone he knows at Renault UK. who confirms that there is no problem with supply..... down in 10 days. (though quite expensive). So we shall see.

Although I am quite happy to replace the rad, I am not convinced that the drips are comming from the rad, the only other thing I can think of is a slight leak on the washer reservoir, perhaps where the pump sits.

Anyone got any ideas on this. :?

John,
that scene looks familiar hahah.
My GTA is in just the same state ie bumper of rad removed.
Mine however is most definetly FUBAR.

Did all your screws come undone?
holding the bumper on.

Hi Dave

No problem at all with the screws and nuts......all surprisingly rust free :D however the bumper is all back on the car now....thats a nightmare in its self....whilst awaiting news of rad, but the more I think about it, I am still not sure the rad is the prob, I am going to try to remove the reservoir today and inspect

John, could it be one of the front coolant hoses going to the rad?

Could you run the car with the rad plumbed back in and the bumper off to see where the leak is?

Hi Martin...thanks for that suggestion, but I think I know how this apparant rad leak occured. When I confirmed with Andy re: Macon, he suggested I checked over the Alp including the gear linkage bush. So armed with that, after replacing the pads, I jacked the offside of the car as high as possible so I could get underneath to check. What I did forget was that the washer bottle was full, and therefore it would have overflowed into the tank area which then proceeded to find its way down to that tank protection cover, which by the way is now as dry as a bone
I have taken the reservoir out and there is no leak, so..... put it all back together again and check level of coolant, run car and keep a watch on it.
If the new rad does arrive, I am going to keep it anyway as I am sure I am going to need it one day :D.......it will go with all my other spares which I bought just in case

......   but what you would`nt like is the all Island 40mph speed limit though

Anyway,...Update... Water reservoir out and filled with Milton (baby owners will know what that is  ) as the interior was black with gunge. It cleaned it up nicely and will be fitted back tomorow. Wheels, bumper etc all back, and have been out for a long run (well 12 miles) and all appears OK. Alp now back in garage draining engin oil, and next job will be to change gearbox oil. New engin air filter arriving from Renault tomorrow.

In the early days I had a sudden panic, thinking that I had a serious water leak at the front end, watter seemed to be trickling out at a steady rate when stationary.

It turned out, that after some spirited driving and hi-G cornering, that the winscreen resevior had started to syphon itself out. I now only allow 1 cm of the overflow/vent pipe to enter into the top of the resivoir.

Maybe you managed to enduce something similair when you jacked the side of the car up.

Hi Simon....yes, I am now pretty convinced that is what has happened. I have always kept the washer bottle full, but having had it out and seeing how much it holds....it must be a good gallon or so, I am not going to fill it up as much in future because as you say, sharp cornering can cause spillage and a near heart attack when seeing water dripping out from underneath .

Just had all discs and pads replaced on my A610. No real problems now apart from an intermittent sound like a washing machine coming from somewhere in the engine bay. Enjoying daily driving it again after all winter off the road.
