Atmo exhaust

I noticed a ticking noise from what seemed like the top offside (bulkhead end) part of the engine. It can be heard at idle and under load. It can't be heard at steady revs. Power seems to be down.

I wondered if it might be coming from the exhaust manifold, but can't see any visible cracks/holes/blowing.

Is this the likely cause, or could it be the camshaft? The car has only done 58k and fully synthetic oil has been used annually since 12k, so in theory the engine should be in good shape.

Any ideas?

Does anyone know of current Renault availability/prices on manifolds or mild steel exhausts?

If I need a new exhaust, I would prefer a stainless, standard pattern one. Has anyone bought one they were pleased with?

Someone called Majid Ilyas (Torqueflow, Tyseley, Birmingham I think it was) used to advertise stainless exhausts in the Club Alpine Renault magazine. Can anyone recommend him?

Check all the spark plugs are done up tight.


Exhausts.... Mecaparts sound nice! Get mild steel manifolds if it is an atmo.

is a modified A310 in stainless 3 branch and twin silencer, works great, sounds lovely :wink:

Speak to Mr Sage re a price, it definitely cheaper than can be obtained in France and it fitted quite nicely. It wont be cheap though and be prepared for a two day struggle with the mainfold studs, they break and corrode away to nothing, like matchsticks.

says I who speaks from experience ....not all of it good, mostly bad actually :lol: :lol:

You make have a broken stud and thats why its blowing?

Just noticed a local Longlife stainless steel exhaust centre. They have centres across the country. Has anyone had one of their stainless exhausts?

This possibly sounds like a spark jumping......does the ticking speed up as you gently increase the revs from idle,...if so, you may have a spark lead loose on a plug, or a loose HT lead by the coil. Look in that area of the engine in the dark....you might just see the spark :wink:

I have used LongLife for my American cars.
Ive had 2 systems made up and they were top quality. Plus they make it exactly how you want.

However, they do not do Manifolds.

One of the guys on here had one for sale. Big MVS ?
2016 Mercedes A200d 2.2 AMG, 7sp DCT.

Ticking sound is typical of failed manifold gasket failure - DeLoreans regularly suffer it.
The follwoing kit may be of interest, the manifolds definitely should be

There's much less room in a DeLorean engine bay than a GTA so they will deffo fit.

After JohnC's suggestion, I checked the engine bay in the dark. Noticed sparks occasionally appearing on the leads on the offside. The sparks were visible not down by the plugs, but a fair way along the leads. The leads don't seem to be loose (although I only gave them a quick 'wiggle') at either the coil or the plugs. Do I need new HT leads?

If you can see sparks, then yes, it would be a good idea to change the leads, but also it might be worth checking the plug gaps, (and check you have the right plugs in)......Large gaps = higher resistance than normal and the EHT tries to find a lower resistance path to earth through leads, if gaps and plugs are OK, suggest changing leads :wink:

In the meantime try cleaning the leads thoroughly with WD40, I believe sparks can use the oil/dirt to tract across the leads surfaces :wink:

If it comes to getting new leads, and wanting to keep things original, should I be looking for Bougicord (not sure about spelling!) leads?

What benefit would there be to different leads?

Hi, if you want to keep it original then buy your leads from the Renault dealer. Not as badly priced as you think.

I didn't go the original route and brought blue magnecors.....i've not been disapointed in the slightest, cars' running the best ever.....mechanic claims the length/fit aint as good thou..
