Steering UJ replacement

Postby scottydog » Wed Apr 07, 2010 6:57 pm

My Atmo has a little slackness in the steering and I have been told by a garage ages ago that it's the UJ. I'd have let them fix it but have fallen out with them as they tried to rip me off (slightly off topic I know but I have spent £1000's with them on the GTA, X1/9 and other cars - why try it on for £150??? Muppets!!!!!!)

Anyway, I have a spare from a breaker so what's involved in swapping the part - is it something a real amateur like myself can take on?

Also, should I be concerned about using a second hand part on steering?

Thanks

Simon.

Take the battery cover off, remove the interior fan, then remove the inspection panel underneath. All will be revealed

You may have to loosen either the column or rack to get it off.

Thanks Martin.

Loosening a steering rack sounds a bit daunting. Is it as bad as it sounds or is loosening the steering column easier?

I wouldn't go anywhere near the rack if I were you .Loosening the column is the better option but it is possible to change it without all that .It's all in the angle of the dangle

Cheers Lee,

I shall endeavour to dangle away from the rack :-)
