Mine don't seem to be working, but the main rad fans are, is there a dodgy relay involved? :!:

Main rad fans are completely separate .
There are two sensors on a bracket near the turbo .One of these is for dash light the other for switching the fans .Pull the wires off the fan switch sensor and touch them together ,this should turn both fans on .That's a good place to start .................

And if they don't start when you join the wires together, try hitting the fan units.... obviously tricky when driving in traffic though.
BTW if they start when you join the wires together then its the sensor thats busted. Off down to your local friendly Renault dealer then....

Chris M recently bought one for his and it was an extortionate £70ish. It IS a generic type though, same sensor as the rad fan switch from a metro... and about £15 for one of them (Motaquip VRF 311) , but I can't tell you the temperatures they're meant to work at I've still got the renault box... at the workshop.

For the time being, swap the two sensors... assuming your light works (?)

its too hot in here

Postby rupert » Fri Feb 22, 2008 9:19 pm

yep, swapping the sensors is very much a temporary solution. The whole point is that the higher temp sensor warns you its too flipping hot in the engine bay... If the fans only swich on then it's going to be too late.
Have you checked with Martin (Big MVS) to see if he has one lying around.

I had fan issues as well:

I think the part numbers were quoted somewhere in here, there is a 90 and 110 degree switch so you may only need one I guess?

How much!!! Looks like they have gone up since 2001

Not sure there are any breakers at the moment either.

From memory there is a Simontaylor thread somewhere in which he took the sensors out and placed them in boiling water to test them. (might struggle with the 110 degree one tho!) Might be worth testing before re-newing

VRF 311
Intermotor 50056
XEFS56

Rad fan switch 86-92 degrees

Local factors have one £9 something plus VAT.

Result!!!!

Hope this helps someone in the future.
