I did this a few years ago but had no trouble at a local motor factors. Replacement unit, took my old one in and got a nice new one (well, probably re-manufactured) by Valeo.

Renault are actually very competitive with starters and alternators. Your old one will be worth £20 too.

renault are never competitive...... if they are its very unusual..... normally the part is availble off the shelf for a lot less than the renault price especially something as common as an alternator

Thanks for the info Guys....I had to pop down to Renault to pick up my water pipe this morning, so took the opportunity to get a price.....£120 (non A/C) which I thought was not too bad, they tell me it is not specific to the GTA

Well they're definitely cheaper than my local motor factors offer a proper rebuild for (ie not just a clean up and squirt of paint).

Check out the price of A610 injectors vs the cost from Bosch for the same part is another example.
