A610 exhaust

Postby Rottbott » Tue Apr 27, 2010 7:29 am

Good morning boys and girls,

My silencer has developed many large holes and collapsed internals (it sounds great!), so it's time to go shopping. I'm not bothered about getting another stock exhaust, but are there any existing exhausts I should be looking at before I just find somewhere to build everything (post-turbo) for me?

I think I'm looking at one now on simon-auto.de but that place is almost unnavigable. Is that any good?

Otherwise, does anyone know anywhere good to build one? I don't know anywhere around Newcastle or Lancashire which is where I'm shuttling between at the moment. I'd rather not have to take the car all over the country like this.

Fingers crossed I can get this done in time to make Prescott. :)

Just have one made and then you can choose how loud it will be. Also it will be cheaper than a Simon auto etc.......

JP Exhausts in Macclesfield.

They did a sterling job on my GTA Turbo (cost £320). I'm going to take my 610 there soon and have a cat bypass pipe fitted as well. Should be £400 I guess all in with your choice of tailpipe.

Let me know as they may do a cheaper deal if 2 of us go at the same time  (maybe 3 if PaulYA610 comes along!)

You could try Quicksilver Exhausts of London (also known as London Stainless Steel Exhaust Co I think). Some years ago I struck a deal and gave them my original A610 exhaust (which was close to needing changing) as a pattern and in return, for a very fair price, got a hand made replacement (with integral heat/alternator shield). The quality was/is superb and I didn't need to take the car to London!

They currently list the A610 in their catalogue but I've no idea about prices - good luck wherever you go though.

Thing is you want someone to make and fit it. Ask Lee Metters the fun and games he had fitting his exhaust himself a while back

Macclesfield would be convenient actually - I live in Northwich (in theory, mostly away working). So count me in if it's going to be soon...

I will definitely need it fitted, I don't have any free time to do it myself. I'd screw it up anyway.

My exhaust was made by Quick silver (I am pretty sure) although I bought it through David Gentleman -Renault alpine tuning. He doesn't list A610 ones any more but I am sure he can get you one made if you ask, but direct may be cheaper. If you get stuck, I probably still have the paperwork somewhere.
The problem I had fitting it was that the cat to downpipe joint had got hot and the bolt heads were non existent. This isn't a problem if you leave the cat in place, but if you are planning a cat bypass tube, they need to come undone (3 of them).
The downpipe cannot be removed on an A610 as its too big to fit between the engine and the bulkhead, so I had to manoeuvre it one side at a time and then loosen and remove each bolt- about a week of evenings in a contorted location under the car. Probably the most frustrating job I have ever had on a car. If you fancy a CAT bypass, get someone else to fit it if these bolts are eroded away- look first!
Its worth keeping the old clamp plate from any old exhaust to make the bypass tube (you'll see why when you take it apart) as it is a thick plate drilled and threaded- I didn't sadly.
BTW there is no gasket for an A610 tailpipe, its a reusable steel ring clamped between the flared ends. The exhaust mounting bracket may also be broken but it was available cheaply from Renault.
Have fun!!
Cheers
Lee

You know i would be in for one of these at the right price! My friend has a quicksilver system on his clio v6 and it sounds stunning. Roadspeed has a full system on the shelf with a decat for £400 but it has the 3" rolled out tail pipe which is not what i want. I am in talks with my local Hi Q exhaust builder as they now use Janspeed parts which look and sound very good! They have just done a system for a friends clio 182 for £280.

Maybe I was lucky, mine fitted virtually perfectly so Quicksilver had matched the exhaust well. If I was to be hyper critical, the exhaust pipe cant differed from side to side by a tiny fraction (in the vertical plane), but that 'adjusted out' quite easily.

If you are in Newcastle there's a place just off the Scotswood Rd called AAS. They made a full system for my 16v 205 GTI, service was great, place was full of classic cars :)

JP Exhausts are busy until the middle of June!

paul_J, do you have a number or anything for AAS?
Otherwise I guess I'll talk to Quicksilver and find somewhere local to fit it.

My plans to get to Prescott are not looking good. :(

Longlife have a dealer in Northwich:

Worth going for a quote, ask how much for a Cat bypass as well as I could be interested
