GTA V6 Turbo. Engine differences.

Postby Paul Taylor » Sat Feb 13, 2010 4:10 pm

Hi all,

Below are some pics of my engine bay, taken today.
One thing i notice about my engine, compared to other pics on this site. Is that i only have 1 fuel pressure regulator which is situated under the main plenum intake runner.
Other pictures i have seen, show 2 separate fuel pressure regulators.

Is mine correct ?. Im guessing there were some changes over the years ?.

Also as promised last week. Here are some pics of the re-carpeted Engine cover, Stereo install. And new decals on rear.

Little "Tip" for those of you with a Single Fuel pressure regulator on a GTA Turbo.

Last week when i took my "V6" plenum off to carry out a throttle body clean. I noticed the pipe on the Fuel pressure regulator had completely collapsed.
Since the plenum sits on top of it, and does crush it somewhat.

I removed the pipe, and cut of the collapsed section. Looking at the damaged section, it was completely blocked. So the fuel pressure regulator would not have been sencing the rise in boost pressure.
The newly cut pipe appears to be OK for now. But ideally this fitting needs some sort of purpose made 90 degree elbow.

Or move the fuel pressure regulator down, over or somewhere so its not so close.

Not one of Renaults brighter ideas.

Thanks for the part number for the washer jets!

Opps sorry, i forgot about that.
I will try to find the receipt.

PS: Also heard the the Vauxhall Insignia has these new fangled "Fan type" washer jets also. People are buying them to fit to old Omega's, Astra's and so on.

You also have the idle valve in the old place, more commonly it's on the left rocker cover.

The twin pressure regs are to help stop it runing lean under boost, or so I heard  so investing an a different pressure regulator might be an idea.

Martin, the twin regs are in series with the rails and both 3bar (gives some degree of individual rail pressure regulation). Running lean under boost I think
Is more a result of the large fuel rail pressure transients, given all injectors are dumping pressure at the same time (batch fire). As you know the later 3ltr n/a engines
had a single reg and damper arrangement that would probably be better. The std GTA Renix / Fenix map coupled with OE injector sizing does run lean at OE max boost anyway which ever reg arrangement you have.
If you are heading in the direction of upgrade, then you need more than just the regulator, you need a better pump etc. As boost pressure is increased the atomisation from the injectors reduces as the pressure differential
between fuel rail pressure and manifold decreases... it all adds up. So on a std setup it really isn't worth changing what's already there, as no gians will practically result; upgrading engine spec etc then this is a different situation agree.
... A diamond is only a piece of coal that did well under pressure... PRV afflicted, may be I need to squeeze harder!!!!
