Non Alpine.................but name that engine

Not a Alpine but a Renault GTT with a diference :) Young Steve (ex GTA owner) as been messing with this conversion for the last six months or so, Anyone like to guess on the engine thats in it (Anyone except Lee :D ) Had Chris(Scoff) down yesterday to do a bit of mapping on the T2 after doing a few more mods :twisted: i honestly didnt think he would have Steve's GTT running & the T2 sorted in one day,

Volvo 480 turbo possibly. Same family as the 1.7 renault engine
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

I thought i had seen plenty of engines in my time, being an ex machanic.
But i have no idea what that is.

I was thinking maybe an early 8v Rover unit ?.
2016 Mercedes A200d 2.2 AMG, 7sp DCT.
2003 Renault Laguna II 3.0 24v V6 Diamonique Auto.

Close :D Its a Toyota Starlet/Glanza 1.3 Turbo engine :D The idea of using this engine is reliable power, The engine will make a reliable 220-230 bhp and the scope for further tuning is mega :twisted: 300+ BHP is more then pos + the gearbox is strong & with the options of LSD's ect
Shame Its japanese but ......................

Not sure I get it? So your replacing a 1.4 turbo charged engine with a 1.3 turbo charged one :?

I thought the GT Turbo engines were getting 300bhp plus anyway these days anyway?

:D Im no expert on these, but the Toyota engine is a much better engine,16V much better at everything compared with the old Ren C1J pushrod engine, even on its 1st start up it sounds so much smoother and it as a strong g-box unlike the Renault.
I think the safe (ish) bhp for the renault engine is prob around 220,

A 5 Gordini Turbo, not a GT Turbo :)
