Seriously though, £10K is a lot for these cars but not much if that's what you want.

And it's a much better car than the blue one. Also Alvin assures me he will look after repeat customers with regard to price

Give Alvin a call.

He may take a sensible offer over £10K to a mature buyer.

Hi Richard,
I've never seen the car nor met Alvin, but I have paid for alpine parts- and that was before Simon Auto's bought up all the remaining parts.
Sadly its a fact that these cars are more expensive to fix than the humble (r25/Espace) origins of the bits would justify, making rough cars uneconomic to fix (as you know).
It should make good ones more valuable but doesn't seem to.

Oh well.

Ahh... Well perhaps he wouldn't like the thought of it being ragged around Croix, then? Or over the Alps, or around Brands? Just like my old GTA had!!

I am tempted but even at the price it went up to I think it's too much in the current depressed car market.

Add to that the bottomless pit that these cars can be to maintain and I think my money will go elsewhere.

LOL!

More wise words!!!???

What are you going to buy for £10k that looks like that???? Damm all is what!

Bottomless pit???? Show me anything thats cheap to maintain in the Renault/Alpine family!

Looks to me like you dont really want to buy anything. I'll sell you an A610 that might fit your 'depressed market' price, 67p please, oh but then its going to be a bottomless pit too!! Catch 22 I guess!

Putting petrol into a car is a bottomless pit exercise for chri$t sake! £6 per lovely gallon approx!!

Wee rant, but hey, Clee wanted it!

Of course we could go and buy a forty grand coupe new that doesn't have either the performance or the exclusivity of the Alpine and lose £5k + a year on depreciation alone. Yes, these cars aren't cheap to maintain but I think they are definately worth it.

Beats me why these cars are worth so little over here but the prices have never taken off - that's just a fact. My last 2 Alpine Renault buys were lucky flukes but A610s have stagnated in price while other classic cars have soared ahead.

When these cars were new - owners would have been happy with only losing £5K/year.

With only about 40 cars in the UK it's going to be difficult to beat in exclusivity value but maybe it is the reputation of high running costs that deter buyers. That together with the poor brand equity of Renault.

I daren't offer a Porsche 968, 944, Vauxhall Monaro or Nissan 350Z as a credible alternative to the A610 but £10K will buy you worthwhile examples with low cost parts available. I daren't offer the cars above as the A610 is a very special car whereas the cars above aren't!!!

I love the qualities of the A610 (and GTA). It would just appear that there are not that many of us who do!!!

You have to respect the fact that when you buy an Alpine, you probably aren't going to make money on it. Personally, I had to have one after 18 years of lusting after one and I love it more today than ever. It's cost me a bit (and I'm sure the expense will be ongoing) but considerably less than my friends cars. One has a 350z and he has now spent north of £55k on his (much of this on performance mods admittadly). It's a nice car and very fast but more special than the Alpine, no way! I doubt that car is worth more than £15-20k despite what he has spent. Another friend has a VXR8 which is on it's second engine after 5,000 miles. Great reliability from his new car!

The biggest problem with the A610 is undoubtably that it is 'just' a Renault to many people. Still, I was parked near a Ferrari last week outside Halfrauds and there was a small group of people around the car that wasn't wearing the prancing horse. One guy, who turned out to be a Citroen specialist (he'd never seen an Alpine before!) reckoned he'd have the Alpine every time over the Ferrari and no-one else disagreed. It's criminal how cheap they are but I don't really care. I love the car for what it is, not what it's worth.

I've got to say that Alpine Renault really did choose a fantastic shade of yellow on the A610.

All of my Alpines have een boring red or blue which are "safe" colours but hell - not as exciting nor as special. I had a yellow VX220 once and took a lot of critisism for it but I ended up seling it at a premium because of the colour. Some cars can take it (i.e. anything special - others can't eg Rovers and Citroens!!)

I've put a lot of miles on my Alpines ove the years and even when an engine went bang - I had it back together again for less than £500 in parts.

My last red A610 came with bills for over £20K spent over less than 18 months. Now that has got to frighten some people. I'm fortunate enough to have the skill and kowledge to maintain these cars and can keep costs under control within reason but you have to have a passion.

I'm realy tempted with Alvin's and should go to see it but he'll just talk me into buying it (you know what they say - a fool and his money ....).
