Brake pads

So what are y'all using? I have newish EBC redstuffs (with new discs and fluid) on the A610, and still managed to totally cook them coming over the A686. This is very worrying! Should I have got the yellow ones? I was worried they'd not work well from cold. The redstuffs work really well, but I'm not happy about them fading like that.

Also they squeal when cold but I assume that's normal.

I dunno, many very tight corners after long open straights. It just goes on for a long time (steeply downhill too) so the problem becomes apparent.

I haven't tried them on a track and now I'm not sure they'd last long if I did!

Mintex 1144's have been mentioned (by Mr Holt) as a much better alternative to the EBC's. I have greenstuff on my 610 at the minute and they are rubbish and will be changed at some point!

i've had nothing but bad exprerience so far with EBC, but mintex never a problem with any of their pads from 1144 up to 1177,

i use the latest mintex F compounds on my race car and they have awsome performance, plenty of feel and never fade.

i'm going to try them on the 4 pot kit i have on the road car next and see how they perform as i've tried 2 compounds of ebc so far and i might as well thrown my money down the toilet.....

just to clarify .... my opinion only before any bunfights start.....

Interesting. The EBC pads are working really well when they work, it's only the fade I'm unhappy with. Sounds like I'll be trying the Mintex ones next time round.

Quite happy with Reds on the front and Greens on the rear of my standard braked GTA Turbo. These were fitted on new discs.They are fine on the road being a touch dead right from cold, but good after the first application.

Not much dust and seem to be wearing well, although I do expect to replace the discs when the pads are worn out as they are wearing a bit. Pads are about halfworn at 20 000 Miles.

On a recent track day on a a track not really known to have brake issues with only 2 real braking zones in 2400 Metres, braking from 190Kph to 90, and from 180 to 90, I had no problems even given the quite small standard discs and having the brakes applied heavily every 30 secs.

The Greens I had on the front previously did not pass the track test and were only good for a couple of laps before fading. OK on the rear.

Maybe yours weren't bedded in fully before you worked them hard.

Mmm, I had done a few hundred miles on mine before this. They seemed to bed in very quickly after fitting. I wasn't going as fast as 190kph (being on a public road) but I was coming down to lower speeds, 30kph or so.

Could it be the fluid? I would expect that to just go spongy rather than make them go away entirely. I did notice after doing it again that pumping the pedal a bit now makes it feel somewhat harder. Also by going maybe 10% easier on the brakes the fade didn't reoccur, but that's no fun!

I suppose the extra weight of the 610 compared to your GTA is a factor too.
