Having sold one of the children and the dog to pay for a new Renault oil pump & waited three weeks for it to arrive , I was ( so say the least ) dissapointed to find that the pump was wrong. Apparently my car has an engine number that does not quite match Renaults records & things we rather ' cottage industry ' at Dieppe during the Gta days. Anyhow the car is still in 1000 pieces and if it were not for my love of the car and the marque I would walk away. I will however wait of another pump and rebuild the car & then sell to the highest bidder. I have decided to take a short break and save for a LeMans. These cars are like a high maintenance mistress. (not that I know of course)!! Great fun when they are on form but hard work when thay are not. Alpine ownership should carry a petrolheads health warning. OWNERSHIP COULD SERIOUSLY ENHANCE YOUR EDRENALIN FLOW AND DAMAGE YOUR WEALTH . OWN WITH CARE AND ALWAYS IN SMALL DOSES. NOTE ! ALPINES ARE NOT INSTEAD OF A WIFE AND LAST LONGER THAN CHRISTMAS.
So anyone wants to buy a stonker of a GTA Turbo on 93k with leather and air con with history and lots of magazine coverage(lots) should wait until the new pump is installed & then pm me. I will get an ad on the site once the work is complete. This is a really special sorted car that has wanted for nothing and lead a spoilt life. At my advanced 48 years she just needs a younger lover with more energy . Over to you !!

Mmmmm.... Alpines... better the devil you know. i'd keep it if i were you rather than buy ANOTHER ONE :shock: :shock: :shock:

It does worry me when i hear stories like this about Alpines.
I was concerned before i brought one, and even more concerned now i have one !.

However, mine is a daily driver. 35 Miles a day. She runs absolutely sweet. Does 27mpg ave, and gets taken to 5500rpm several times a day and seems to love it. The only thing to go wrong so far in my ownership was a tiny split in a rubber water pipe that was well past its sell-by date.

Touch wood i have a good one, and everthing works, inc the fuel gauge.
Tempting fate now... something will fail on the way home...

I must be thick but I don't see the ' MAJOR PROBLEM ' apart from the fact that the Renault parts department have sent the wrong bit :shock: :? :roll: :lol:

Pressure release valves stick sometimes ..on any car ...you found it quickly and no damage has been caused ?
Stop moaning ,get the right part and fit it :roll: :wink:

Wow there , did I tough a raw nerve. What better recommendation can I make for these stunning cars having owned this cracker for five years that I am now looking to sell and look for another. Any grief and cost experienced over the years evaporates the second you turn the key and take the first corner. The exhaust 'chuckle' on overrun still brings a smile my face after all these years. Nothing looks like a GTA, goes like a GTA or sounds like a GTA.I am totally addicted !! I wish I could own both the Lemans that I lust after and this car.But I can't!! When the pump is in next week & I am back behind the wheel I will be happy again and less demoralized. £193 for an oil pump is theft whichever way you look at it. Now I suggest that anyone with a healthy or sick Alpine takes it to Clee because he is very very good & Richard is very very good as well( but further away) & won't cost an arm or leg or a child & dog (like Renault parts dept)

I think what people are trying to say Midlife is that why after spending all that dosh/time getting it right then sell it to someone else to benefit from? You could then be buying more unknown trouble which could turn into a GTA "Le Mon" :wink:

We used to have an old Christina power boat but with two 180hp turbo itercooled diesel 6s it would blow the modern gin palaces out of the water a bit like Alpines for me anyway As for prices anything to do with boats think of a number double it and add a 0 like Renault I think John C has/had a boat and might agree Used to moan about the money /time spent but once under way everything is forgiven (nearly) great times like our cars We were mored at Rochester your neck of the woods Midlife
My alpine needs welding then start the rebuild should be ready before I retire!!!!!!!!!

All sorted ! The new oil pump is now fitted and the engine runs really really well with perfect oil pressure. I have changed the filter & oil again just a precaution to catch whatever particle or particles stuck in the releif valve last time. Overall a perfect result & no damage, with the car sounding and driving sweeter then ever just in time to enjoy the good weather that we have at the moment. I have driven the Alp to work every day this week so the love affair is back on track. I just hope the wife does not find out how much this all cost & forgives me for all the evenings and weekends under the car when I really should replace the shower that I removed 6 weeks ago to fix and never quite re-installed. How could I ever sell a car as good as the Alpine GTA Turbo ?? However a Lemans in that Metallic burgandy colour with air conditioning that works ......................................................& with perhaps an adaptronics set up that works might just tempt me !
