Hi Stephen,

Yes i did have a witness. The MOT tester, he was there for the whole conversation. Actually he was quite annoying because he kept butting in saying how much he hated the PRV engine. Apparently in his younger years he worked in a Renault dealer and he was the one the got all the major jobs on PRV's.
Anyway i guess that bodes well for me. I will wait to see what my solicitor friend says tomorrow and go from there.

.....of course the trick here is to ask him what he thought the deposit was for if it was`t to secure the sale.......as that was your understanding

I AM GOING TO KEEP VISITING MY LOCAL MOT STATION UNTIL I MEET A WEALTHY RACING TEAM OWNER THAT WANTS TO GIVE ME 8K FOR MY CAR AND A £500 INSTANT DEPOSIT. I WILL START MY QUEST TODAY AND KEEP YOU POSTED.

IN THE MEAN TIME MR SILVER DREAMER THE £500 IS YOURS - 'CAVEAT EMPTOR'. (GOOGLE IT) YOUR CONTRACT WAS SEALED WITH A HANDSHAKE AND EXCHANGE OF FUNDS AND SUBJECT TO A SMALL CLAIMS COURT ACTION THE MONEY I BELIEVE IS YOURS UNLESS YOU HAVE BREACHED A PART OR PARTS OF THE CONTRACT OR THE GOODS ARE NOT AS DESCRIBED.(IE ITS NOT A CAR) CASE CLOSED!

NOW, WHICH MOT STATION DO YOU USE ?

Further update on the sell / no sell of my car !.

As advised by my solicitor friend on monday i have sent a letter to the person concerned stating that i would like the transaction completed by monday 25th.
To give him reasonable time to get the funds together should he be having problems. But then again hes had quite long enough already.

If he fails to respond to that, then i can pursue him through the courts should i wish too. Depends on how big a deal i want to make of this.

Right now im not too fused, since we do not move to America unitil March 2011 so i have plenty of time to sell the car.

PS: I use Stoke Row Garage, which is just a few miles out of Henley on Thames. They specialise in working on "Classic cars".

race you

Postby Midlife » Wed Oct 20, 2010 1:13 pm

Race you to sell their car first ! Suggest we start at stella prices to try and lift the market and the winner is the one with the highest sale price(confirmed by witness that is not a mot tester with bad engine taste) I will spend my winnings on developing my classic car business and I suggest that if you are the winner , you spend your money on home security , body armour and self defence classes when you get to Atlanta USA. That city has a reputation & its not a reputation for classic cars love.
As a clue I am looking for up to 7k with working Air con & press coverage history. As a thought you could add bullet proof glass and take my car with you.

Atlanta is not that bad !. Well it might be downtown i guess, but we are going to be approx 1hr outside of Atlanta city limits.

Its actually quite a nice area, ive been going there for over 10yrs, its certainly alot better than Reading !.

I hope this car sells soon. Even my wife is saying I should buy it now. £9K for an immaculate GTA in perfect order.

I said no because I can't afford to tie up £9K in a garage queen prima donna and she said. So you pay £9K for it - enjoy it for say 4 years by which time it will be a typical GTA in average condition worth say £4K. It has cost you just over £1K/year in depreciation and you've got probably the closest to a new GTA available this side of a £20K restoration.

Someone please buy it!!!

Good spot Martin and not far from Mr Crowston territory by the looks of it.

I don't think anything we say will talk the prices up - it's what someone is willing to pay that counts. My missus feels £9K for a concours car is a good buy but I'm worried that if I needed to sell I'd struggle to get my money back with ease.

I've got no Alpines in the household at the moment so if anything I could do with talking prices down.

Some classic car prices have really shot up but GTAs are still reasonable as I guess most people don't think of them as "classic cars".

Sorry, this is the car I was talking about and I've got confused by the 2 cars in this thread. I knew the asking price was £9500 and assumed it had dropped to £9K because of the deposit situation on the other car.

As a trader I wonder how much they would/could negotiate. I'm hoping they are going to find themselves stuck with it and the price becomes easier to live with. I guess I should have considered it more seriously when it was being sold privatly.
