Zee clue is in Clee's post....

Quick and dirty, don't pass go and collect 200 quid...

Go down to Maplin Electronics, you will find one in all major towns, go to their electronic counter ask for a 1/4 or 1/2 Watt 390 ohm or 370 ohm resistor and give the blokey 30p or what ever it is...

Get back to car, fold the lead wires back on the resistor so it stays put and push into the connector, with zee old sensor disconnected init (car side of the loom :wink: )

Fire the car up and observe... drive around like a loony for a while, and do your hot tests, if that fails you will be shortly passing lots of dosh on to someone else for an exchange ecu, chipping options available :wink:

The resistor is simply fooling the ecu into thinking the water temp is around 80 degC. This is safe and won't cause you any problems for a reasonable test period; it's not a permanent fix. Note, if you test this on a particularly cold day the car may be a little reluctant to start, as you won't have the cold running additional fuelling. However, I'm sure you know what you are doing and will be able to spot this, but it should start without issue. If you want to be extravagant, and apart from joining the club benefits for you to decide... you could get a couple of values, say a 320 ohm as well, and that will simulate a cold start.

OK-so it seemed to make a difference-but not a big difference.

I cant take it for a hoon -its not legal -and a breakdown/tow home round here is asking for trouble.

With a 390 ohm resistor (al Maplins had) it ran for 15mins -then died.
It did seem to TRY to run longer - perhaps because its a cold day?

Just to make sure I'm not being a complete numpty -its the ''proper'' sensor on the left of the housing-as you look from the front-not the small plug (presumably water temp guage) on the right?

Additionally-for the first time today I discovered the heaters cold.
Car IS full of water, pressurised properly, no other faults I can see in the 15 mins available.

Is it airlocked -are there bleed points hidden someplace ,or will it clear once driven? Might it have an effect -cant see how -the engine was properly warm...

So-assuming Martins sensor effecvtively confirms its an ecu problem:-

are they cross referable -or unique?

would a gta one fit?

are there any good known seconds out there?

I'm loathe to spend serious wedge on this (complicated untried unroadworthy near worthless) saloon.

ECU is a bendix S100 802 02101
Hom 7700 726 993
BVM 7700 727 574- whatever allthat means!

Open to further suggestions I guess.

Sorry missed your update. Site has been a bit dead lately so not been looking much :roll:

The right sensor is the one with two wires on it, the other only has one if memory serves me correctly.

ECU is a bendix S100 802 02101
Can you whip the lid off and post up a photo or pm I'll be able to confirm exactly what you have. Need the numbers off the white label on the small chip beside the MPU (40 pin chip in the middle), and the last number Sxxxx.. on the MPU as well.

Likely the GTA ecu can be made to work.

Near Heathrow... not tried telepathy, but all new experiences welcome, almost :wink:

Differences are subtle, most concrete way to check is to read off the last number on the MPU (big chip) starting with Sxxxxxxxxxx. The MPU ROM contents are different dependent on the final ecu application.
