Paul T

When I ordered mine in July `10, I was going to order a cap as well, but was told by the Renault Dealer that they usually came with a cap, so it was decided to hold off ordering the cap at that time, but if it did not come with a cap, they would subsequently order one for me. However when it arrived, just as Renault had said, it came with the brown cap as they had ordered with the part No. for the Atmo.

Just a post script on this guy`s..... if you are going down this route of replacing the reservoir, I would strongly suggest spending a few more quid on a new cap, and not using the old one......the originals are around 20 years old, and who knows what the pressure relief value is of them after all this time. If they are stickey or siezed, there is a risk of the coolant pressure rising and blowing hoses, the type of thing you just don`t want to happen
Perhaps someone who does get a cap from Renault can tell us how much they are...please

Well it arrived today. Cap is useless, but fortunately I have a nice new Renault one already to replace the mangled (and wrong) white cap (what pressure is that) I have fitted just now.

See below....just need to fit it....

Oops!!! just crossed posts with phildini  .....but thanks for the info....so at £4 each...no excuse not to replace it.

But just a thought....even if you are not replacing the reservoir, if the cap on your Alp is still the original, it might be an idea to replace it anyway as a precaution

When I ordered a new bottle from Simon Auto last year, that did NOT come with a new cap.

Fortunately, I'd already replaced mine a couple of years earlier - and more worryingly from reading this topic, it seemed that my 'original' cap was a brown one on my turbo.

Might explain why it seemed to be seeping through the relief valve, which is what lead me to replace it with what turned out to be a blue one.

Hopefully Renault will supply bottle and cap together but I wouldn't count on it...

It looks to me from these prices that the Atmo bottle comes with a cap (well mine did), but the Turbo bottle dosn`t. However Renault tell me that the Turbo bottle Pt No. 6001020744 is nil stock :?
Will be interesting to see what turns up for Stephen.......I bet Stuart D never realised what a controversy he was starting with his helpful post ....but nevertheless I think a lot of useful info has come out of this for members

We know there is stock as they had them Dieppe but they wanted 50 euro.. However they may still be closed for a while with the move delaying the order.

Well if the Genuine one turns up for £39 ish before discount (but after 20% vat) with a cap, that would be a better buy.
I'm still happy with this copy- it is well made and is reinforced on the "Overflow" pipe under the head. Mecca parts wanted 55 Euro and the last time I asked Renault I was quoted 75.
Any advice on Anti freeze to stop it going brown like the last one?
I have just been using standard Blue antifreeze up to now (and the bottle was brown before I got the car).
Cheers

I was just going to say the VAG coolant is pink and does not stain the plastic I have used it on my R11 turbo and my clio 172 and the tanks are mint.
Lee now you have a nice new headder tank time you got that engine cover powdercoated, just had mine done and it looks soo much better!
