Exhaust and wheels for me, although I could be tempted by a remap and some extra horses maybe soon

Clee,
Moderate tune as I have with my '89 GTA Turbo.
Laguna V6 NA engine with the std turbo on top running low boost.
Making a little mare than std bhp but the torque spread is soooo much nice.
Lowered springs, AZEV A wheels & Simon auto race exhaust.
If I ever have some more money I would like to upgrade brakes as I feel that they are not inspiring ( too many squeaky bum moments for my liking !!!!!!!)

Orther than going for a track car I dont feel there is any way we can use more power on our radar and speed camera infested roads without falling foul of the 'de law'.

Regards,
StephenB

Decat with decent exhaust and a slight Boost increase 275bhp

or you can spend thousands to get over 300

I think I'd have to put myself down as a 'wheels and exhaust'.

I've been going for subtle upgrades rather than full on tuning and potentially things that I can return to original should I feel the need to.

I went for bigger wheels - cheaper than OE tyres as we all know, stainless exhaust from Paul Sage.

Other than your wheels and xhaust:
- Bailey piston-dump valve instead of plastic Bosch
- Simon Auto Type-RS drilled/grooved brake discs with EBC green stuff
- Samco hoses in place of OE.
- GFB Atomic boost controller
- Prosport electronic boost gauge

It's quite possible that this has just brought the car back to original performance but as StephenB says, plenty of performance to take you way beyond the law on the road!

I have to say thanks to everyone who shares their tuning experience. Clee, your postings on Full-On JIL are excellent. I think it's pretty clear that there are some benefits from upgrading boost but to get serious power upgrades (and someone once told me that the GTA Turbo engine could be tuned for 600bhp! :? I won't name any names) you've got to spend a lot of time, effort and money and make some very radical changes. Right now, I'm happy with my wheels, exhaust and boost!

It's an interesting question. I've voted for OE all the way although that may not be true if I bought another. As these cars get older and fewer it's important that some are kept in standard tune as a benchmark. Surely the point of enjoying a 'classic' is that you like them for all their faults, The massive turbo lag on my GTA I like to think as part of its charm.
That said, if I had one that wasn't so original I would be looking at some sort of twin turbo arrangement, do you reckon the 3.5 in the Espace 4 would be a good starting point

I don't buy the ' more power ,break the law ' argument I'm afraid
I can break the law in the 5TL just as easily as in the GTA

I agree with you - and the more power=break the law isn't really what I was saying. I'm mostly on the road plus a few track days and now that I have my boost back to factory, I'm happy.

Now, if I was doing the sorts of track stuff that you're doing...

If using it as a daily driver then it'd be slight mods to improve driveability, wheels n xhaust! If it's just the weekend toy get out of it what your money/skill/deranged ideas allow. My Gta always gave & will give again bigger smiles per miles than my current CLK55 which has an awesome engine but I think they forgot to sort the rest of the car they bolted it too!!

yeah still on with it  it's in storage at moment in process of building an extension to keep the wife quite and a new big garage so i can swing the spanners. As soon as the garage is up the engines coming out as i've realised i'm not like carlsberg and there are certain areas I just can't reach while it's in! Suspension turrets need a patch on the usual place anyway so it's as good an excuse as any to drop it out.
