best shox for atmo

what shox do you guys think best for gta

i have uprated/ lowered springs already but want to improve the dampening of the standard shox (plus there as old as the hills)

also best place to get them from

Dellboy Spax or DG gaz .....I've got some GAZ going on but can't report as yet how they perform .That's shallot .....

But then Spax have so much more experience wih suspension than Gaz, as I understand it Gaz used to supply/manufacture parts for Spax, but then set up on their own to produce their own product

I know the guys at Spax spent a lot of time developing the dampers and they are a first class product.

Sure the Gaz units are OK also. They do go rusty quickly though.

+ the Spax dampers are YELLOW so would look good on your car

I thought I'd heard that the GAZ ones were modified Honda spec shockers.
that doesn't make them bad, but not necessarily the right ones.

I have had trouble with spax in the past on gti-6 but i love Gaz coilovers on my clio they work very well!!!!

Other way around - Gaz is basically LEDA, which were like the leading company in high end racing shocks in the UK for like 30 years..LEDA was a suspension distributor, and GAZ were the engineering company that built all the shocks for them. The over the years as the market for racing suspension started to dwindle, LEDA closed up, and the staff and head engineer went to work for GAZ so they could continue and hence why Gaz are the only full racing shock manufacturer in the UK. A new version of LEDA has opened up again in the UK up north, and still get Gaz to supply all the shocks etc.

GAZ have never made the entry level and midrange stuff for Spax, like the yellow painted dampers they get for road cars, but you can guess all the high end plated bodies suspension dampers are as they look the same as what GAZ make, but Spax have only got into that zinc/alloy bodied design in recent years where as Gaz/Leda has been doing that for decades.

As for them being 'modified Honda spec dampers' - All GAZ dampers are made from scratch, every single part on those shocks is machined at the factory and assembled there. They don't 'modify' existing shocks, they took my original brand new Koni dampers, CAD'd them, rate tested them on a dynometer, built the new units to my specs, and after about 3 editions of testing and changing they came to the finished article they are now. If you set them up to midway damping they perform exactly how the Koni's used to, which were well regarded as a very good shock on the GTA, but hence discontinued thus why I went to GAZ to design a replacement.

I've tried both and there isn't much difference to be honest, I would say the SPAX ones are a little bit better quality and the damping appears to be a little better controlled giving a better quality ride for the same level of stiffness. Not sure how the prices compare.

AVO is also a UK manufacture that is racing based, good product in my opinion. Very helpful guys and they will make one-offs, custom lengths body and stroke, and change bump and rebound as you require, give them a call, nothing to lose
